  1. Sounds interesting. Time for a long Google, methinks.

    Steve Parry says...
The 350F2 was a fast bike, for what it was, tested at 125mph by a couple
of mags. The earlier non-pv bikes would be hard pushed to reach that
when professionally tuned. I loved the last powervalve I had, it was a
cracking little bike. The earlier 4LO bikes handled better than the
first of the 31K powervalves, but Yamaha soon got on the case and sorted
that out. I'm not a fan of the 31Ks apart from their engines.

Yes, that was the theory at the time.

  5. That's what I had - a blue/yellow one, bought new.

You could gear them up, because they'd easily spin into the red in top
at about an indicated 120. The taller gearing (one more tooth on the
gearbox sprocket) made them a bit more relaxed at cruising speed,
improved economy slightly, and they'd still pull to the redline in top
at (IIRC) an indicated 127 or something.

Trouble was, that it moved the power-valve flat spot further up the rev
range. You know: the sort of black hole at 6000rpm when the PV can't
decide whether to open fully or not.

On stock gearing this happened at 70-75 mph in top, which wasn't a
problem, but with the higher gearing it happened at about 80+, which was
really irritating. So I put it back to stock gearing in the end.

  6. Ahem! You know better than that, Neil.
That's not moving it up the *rev range*...

  7. My bad. I meant "up the speed range".

I'm pretty sure your Honda uses the same filter that my '86 FJ1200
Yamaha used. I used Frams in it for years just because my local Yamaha
shop pissed me off so bad I wouldn't go in there. Then I bought my
Kawasaki ZRX in '99, and it used the same filter. After that I used
Kawasaki filters in it until I sold it. You might check some cross
references and check the filter for your Honda against the filter on
    '86 Yamaha FJ1200 and '99 Kawasaki ZRX1100.
