"Villagers in West Hoathly and Sharpthorne have been given training in
how to use police speed guns ....Sussex Police said it would not be the
    last scheme of its kind"

All a bit worrying, but should make for an easier challenge in court if
Doris aged 97 hasn't calibrated the Lidar correctly.

"Police say they will be working in teams.

One will be wearing distance glasses to operate the radar.
One will be wearing reading glasses to take the number.
The rest will be trying to hold the radar still."

Are they actually going to take people to court on this evidence?

I know they have had untrained civilian operators working speed guns in the
past but all the drivers got was a stroppy letter telling them to slow down.

Especially as in the past, some instances of such things have found it's the
    locals that speed the most...

Did you mention your house being egged etc and ask them to compare which was
    more important?

So you're saying that "Please drive like a twat" posters would be a good
    safety measure?

  9. Heh, it'll teach the buggers to watch what they're doing though.

Move 'em up here. It's only because they're not used to anything going
on (Front page news if someone sticks their fingers up type place). Give
'em something to think about and they'll be more careful.

They had something similar in Laughton (B2124) - a hilarious village in
East Sussex with a fast sweeping bend running through it with a 40 mph
    restriction.

The locals had gun linked to a big 'laser display board' that showed your
speed; more of a reminder than anything else.

It became a challenge to see what would happen when the two character
board was faced with the opportunity to display a three figure number.

    Then I realised I was being a bit of a ****.

3rd offence and the police will show up and teach the offenders how to
    make a proper omelette.

  16. That was my take on it and it's going to lead to violence at some
    point.

  18. Suppose it depends how you read

"Details of vehicles travelling at double the 30mph speed limit will
be passed to police to deal with, with the possibility of fines and
    points on licences."

At least it's somewhere to go & play over a weekend
