Has anyone got one of the older twin spindle radio cassette players
kicking about that they no longer want? I have cash to make it
worthwhile - just not a lot...

Needs FM and working tape heads (I have a tape > 3.5mm jack converter),
    neg earth ok.

  2. I have one kicking about the workshop.
Seen better days (will clean up OK) and it was working fine before it
got bunged in a box and forgotten about. It is neg earth - Radiomobile,
    iirc.

if this is to be "in keeping" with the vibe of your old shit car,
wouldn't you want one with the 5 mechanical "preset" buttons too?

    **** FM ;=)

    Or, even better, an 8-track?

Yes, yes and yes but have you seen the price!

I have a Motorola MW/LW set in there at the moment but I don't have the
competence to wire a jack input.

    Do you?

My dad has been converting ancient but good condition 1950s and 60s 405
line monochrome TVs into full 625 line colour internals with inbuilt
basic dvd players, and then flogging them to film prop suppliers for
the past few years. He makes a fucking good living from it.

I'm sure my dad[1] has something in the garage that'd suit. I'm going
to see the rents this afternoon so I'll have a look in there and get
    back.

[1] Dad is an ex=army electronics engineer who went self employed in
the 70s doing domestic stuff like TV and radio repairs. He's got a
large garage full of period TV and radio stuff.

    it is a tad...steep.
    define "wire a jack input"?

The particular unit I posted the link to appears to have left/right
stereo phono inputs on the back - you could shoehorn an MP3/FM player
hidden in the glovebox into those if you were minded to.

hang on, checking the pics on that link, they've already done just
that, which probably explains the price. Ignore me. It's too easy on a
    Sunday morning to talk shit.

    My old Daimler had one.

I only had a couple of cartridges - Hawkwind: Silver Machine, Beatles:
Revolver, Gentle Giant: Breaking Glass (IIRC) and Vilvaldi's Four Seasons.

No wonder Fiona refused to travel in it.

    It was also pink.

I think there's quite a call for 60/70/80s sets converted to take MP3
players and the like. There's not much available ATM.

my Dad's old (orange!) (two-door!)[1] droop-snoot Vauxhall Firenza had
an 8-track, with only about 3 cartridges that I can remember; there
was a Shirley Bassey one, a Bobby Crush one (both, bizarrely, IIRC
which had versions of "Big Spender" on them" and I think Bert
    Kaempfert's "Swingin' Safari".

God, I used to love love trips in that car. It was shit.

[1] this was immensely controversial at time, as it was a company car,
and he was occasionally expected to take >1 people to business lunches
    in it[2]
[2] this whole controversy was binned in the early '80s when two other
directors of his company bought themselves Audi Quattros[3]
[3] yes, the real ones, not the "Coupe Quattro"s.
perhaps you should change your posting name to "Lady Penelope".

  20. Right; it's a Radiomobile three-bander, model MTE 350 and I can find no
pic of it on the web. It's a radio-cassette, with twiddly knobs, no
buttons and the cassette goes in front-wise, so might not be suitable
for one of the cassette adapter thingys.
