Sure you are not talking about a K1100LT? brought out in 1992?

Very few K100LT's were imported into Australia in the early 1990's (mostly
K100RT and the majority were cop bikes) and they were discontinued upon the
    introduction of the K1100 series.

Instead of a K series ? Why because you want to pay more money for crap
ergonomics, crap brakes, no power and miserably bad handling

    Top suggestion George.

I wouldn't buy one but the BMW KxxLT makes sense to me, nothing made by
    Harley does.

    I owned a 1994 K1100LT for about 5 years, purchased it for $10,500 put
45,000 kilometres on it and sold it for $10,000. It made a lot of sence to
    me.

    I still own a 1994 K100RT (ex cop) attached to a sidecar, 120,000 kilometres
    and still pulling well. I have also owned a 1993 K1100RS and a 1986 K100RS.

The K bikes can get hot in the summer but make a really great cool weather
tourer, they are relatively cheap to own but these days the K100's are
getting a bit old and I would certainly go for a K1100LT. However the early
    R1100/R1150 RT's are good alternatives.

    Well, that's a bit of a jump!

You asked about cruisers, then <whamo> a BM K100!

For what it's worth, I got rid of my K100RS over ten years ago, when it
became just too much work to live with such a beast.

Good luck with your search, but.... are you sure?

I rode a new Yamaha cruiser and I think it has put me off cruisers for
life. Feet forward position was very unnatural - not at all comfortable. It
might look good but that's about all. I dunno how they do it.

I always liked the BM's but never had one. So what was wrong with the
    K100RS beast?

It was a lovely bike. It was super good for big distance touring.

I loved it when I got it, then, as the years passed, I did less big
distance touring, and I began to notice that it was quite a tall and
heavy (high C of G) bike.... rather my crook back noticed! :-(

My current BM, the R850R, a flat twin, the C of G is lower.... well it
feels that way to me, and, although it is still quite a heavy bike, I
find I can handle the weight better, especially with the lower seat
    set-up and wide bars.

I noticed cross-posting to things of WA.... talk to Theo, Guzzi do some
nice sortof cruisers, but with sensible foot positioning....Jackal?
Stone? and, were you to be looking new, V7-Classic.

The K series are hot motorcycles and the K100's are now at least 16 years
old and very few have under 150,000 kilometres on them, whilst the motors
will happily run to over 300,000 kilometres without major problems they are
a bike that will start to require some significant maintenance, balance
shaft noise can be a problem, fuel injection rubber bits will need
replacement soon (I have done them and they are a full day's work) Electrics
start to need carful maintenance as earths start to be less reliable and dry
solder joints start to work loose. If you are returning to motorcycling best
to look to a younger ride that will cause you less problems. Many will
require disks (bank on at least $250 each with pads), and a fuel injection
service would not go astray. Fuel pumps genuine are expensive $5-600 (I use
a XD Falcon pump as it is a direct replacment and is about $160).

Hello. Yeah, feet-forward motorcycles are not my thing either. A mid-
nineties Guzzi California with mid-milage (<100,000 klicks) is going
to set you back around $7-8K in reasonable nick and are a great long-
distance touring bike (in extreme meanings of long-distance) The
engine is solid as a rock. I had a '94 that had never had anything
done to the engine in 210,000 kms. Still didn't need an oil top-up
    between changes.

Go check out Mario at Thunderbike in Bayswater.

Heh heh; but you can't have it yet 'cause I'm still riding it!!
It's only done 112,000km and XJs will pretty-much match BMW Ks for
longevity while being cheaper and easier to work on!
Should go for about $1500~ when I'm satisfied the Trump is totally
    100% again.

to ride it to the Supers though! [not that it's in any way not up to the
    trip])
