Aah, could be useful 'cos I've got a pair of 250LC wheels and I think
there's a box of assorted jets & sprockets floating around somewhere.

You might well be right you know. I do know the RD250 and 400 have
different primary drive ratios, cos I put a 250 clutch basket and
primary pinion gear in my 400 when the basket fucked itself. The 250 one
gave much better acceleration on standard 400 chain and sprockets.

I think not, they may well have had cast iron embossed into them, but
they were most certainly alloy. I think we should take a hacksaw to
Ash's RD200's wheels just to make sure.

I'll take a file with me next time I visit my daughter, she has a 1981
RD125 twin with cast wheels, and the rims are definitely highly polished
    alloy.

Call me a philistine, but I hated your RD I rode [1] almost as much as
the Armstrong MT500 I rode a few months back.

I'm preparing to hate my CB250N just as much BTW ;-)

    Cheers,

    Paul.

[1] Sorry and all that, it just wasn't 'me', on several levels .....

    But that was an RD350LC F2, not a *proper* air-cooled RD, like a 400.
RDs are a 'luv 'em or hate 'em' thing.

  6. Didn't know the RD125 twin ever had alloy wheels, to be honest.

No, honest, the RD200 (some models, anyway) had "cast iron" embossed on
    the wheels. Amazing.

The very late ones did. I've known the history of my daughter's one from
when it was first registered. It was given to me by a mate who'd owned
it from new. It is as factory with cast wheels. I know of another from
the same group of lads which also had cast wheels.
I'll take a peek at the wheels on Caz's next time I'm up there, and
    report back :)

I dunno, but some strange people do. I had a GT250, and an X7, hated
both of them with a passion. I was actually very pleased when the X7 was
    stolen.

    I never had either (thankfully)

    but had mucho fun with

    RD250B
    RD350B
    RD400DX
    RD250LC
    RD350LC

always hankered after an RD500 (or even just a go on one) but slithered
into the seedy world of UJM's ....

.... D .... seem to recall they were out at the same time as yamaha named
the rd125's and rd200's "DX" which is I think why they often got
misnamed ... The 400 and the 350 B where my faves .. although the LC's
    are much "prettier"

I wanted to love it, as it was one of those bikes when I was in my mid
teens that all my school mates (on their AP50's and FS1E's) were
    raving about [1].

Unfortunately 3+ years of litrebike ownership has jaded those rose
tinted expectations somewhat, and I just felt it was a bit shit.

    Cheers,

    Paul.

    [1] With it's embarrassment [2] of power
    [2] In a good way
