As header I`m after a large capacity 2-stroke single, LC or aircooled don`t
    matter.

The bigger the better but anything over 350cc would suit and I only need the
engine and ignition coil/system not the whole bike.
In fact not even the whole engine! the clutch and gearbox could be buggered
to **** as long as the piston/barrel/head and crank/magneto etc. are in good
    working order.
The best bet would be an old MXer but any other suggestions as to
    sources/possible donors are welcome.
The gearbox/clutch etc. will be cut off from the crank part of the caseing
and only the crankshaft/conrod/piston/barrel/reedblock and head will be used
so anything that is remotely roadworthy will be wasted and prolly too
    expensive for this project anyway.

TIA for ideas etc. and happy Christmas.

There is/was an old Maico 440 engine up for grabs a few weeks ago near
me (north Beds) would that be of any use?

That`s the ideal donor! and just the sort of thing I was thinking of, did`nt
think they`d be that easy to get hold of though.

Much appreciate it if you could sort out the details (price/location etc.)
and ping me/mail me when you get the time after the festive season and
    normality returns.

    TIA.

    Lol! Good idea but no.

I`m building a bigger brother to "Red Dwarf".
A dedicated drag sprinter to take the piss out of the "Factory" teams
entered in the "X-race" drag series for twist`n`go scooters.

They (PM Tuning/PSN Scooters etc.) have the advantage in they have a whole
shop of go faster goodies and dyno-setups to get the times they are getting
    at the moment.
Current record is 12.8 sec at 98mph but, as I said , they can throw
unlimited time and budget at their scoots as it also boosts sales of their
performance parts it makes sense to them.

We are not too far behind and should be running high 14s and 80+mph on the
Dwarf, BUT, we are still keeping to the spirit of the series and sticking
to 125cc whereas the factory teams are running Malossi 172cc kits and bigger
with state of the art porting and mega expensive internal rotors and
    re-mapped CDI`s.

Soooo.....I`m building an "unlimited" auto sprinter to wipe the floor with
    them;-)
Beefed up chassis in the same design me made for the Dwarf.
Large(now possibly Maico 440) stroker crank/barrel etc but with a Bergman
500cc or similar variator on the crank and the same clutch/rear pulley
turning it into a manic stroker twist`n go scooter.

God knows how it`ll run but could be a killer machine! (either me or the
    twist`n go drag record ;-)

A long project but very do-able for us.

    Shame, could have been fun.
All the best with it, sounds like fun. The world needs nutters like you
to put our comparitavely mundane lives into perspective.

  10. He-he. I remember the Demented Swiss at the Bol had something similar.
    250cc, IIRC. I've got a pic somewhere.

  14. An if it wasn't for the 'creative nutters' the UK would not be the heart
    of motor sport development.

It's something like 90%[1] of all F1 cars had their chassis and or
engine developed in the UK. Same for 90%[1] of Indie cars. And a lot of
these specialist firms started as a 'creative nutter'.

So go for it AND THE BEST OF LUCK.

[1] Can't remember the exact figure but it up there in the high
    percentages.
