Wanted: digicam

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by The Older Gentleman, Nov 10, 2003.

  1. OK, wrong place to list this, and all and all.

Jamie's birthday looming, and I've seen what he's been doing in iMovie.
He's downloaded all sorts of extra stuff, and it's remarkable. This I
    want to encourage.

I'd like to get him a Mac-compatible digital camcorder. Who's got one?

The deal: cash if you want, or swap for my Honda ST70 Dax (value about
ukp600/650), cash either way, or whatever.

    Who's got what?

There's a Pansonic at Comet for £300 at the moment.

At that price, it's almost 'who cares if it's any good territory'

I have, a Sony DCR-PC9E. Records on mini-DV tape and has a Zeiss lens.
Its ideal, but you could get anything thats got a Firewire/IEEE1394 socket.
Try the DCRPC103E if you cant find one.
    No thanks.

I have no idea, it doesn't do pass-through for analogue, but at that
price it's avery hard to beat. However, I do have a lot of respect for
Panasonic stuff (they are the same as Technics).

  8. I'm told I want DV in/DV out. I can also swing this against my tax.....

Ah, then you are looking at the £800+ cameras then.

Alternatively, the pass-through feature is only disabled because of EU
licensing rules, there are usually hacks to enable this feature in most
    cameras.

And once again TOG is completely baffled by techie talk.

Can't see why you'd need DV-in unless you're either planning to
record back to DV tape (possible, but you might as well burn an
mpeg to CD for all the use it'll be) or use an external camera
    (helmet-cam, anyone?)

Cams with just DV-out are dirt cheap.

I think what you really need is analogue in and DV out.

You didn't need _any_ of the quoted stuff before your reply. Just an
appropriate <snip ...> would have sufficed.
