Boiler's on the blink (again) and don't want to pay out as it will be
serviced by BG in January under payment plan. As we often have a baby
in the house now, we need a backup heater - convector, oil-filled
radiator or fan (but not noisy) to keep one room warm. Anyone got
summat for a fiver or so near to Reading?

Ta ever so, but I don't know anyone who is passing that neck of the
woods and the petrol to fetch it ourselves would be more than getting
a cheapie from a shop would be. Also, it has to be soon - although the
boiler is technically working, it's a bit nippy in here. So, I think
the shop has it. But thanks again.

I've got one in Maidenhead you can borrow indefinitely, if you like.

Well knowing the boiler was -about- to go bad (again) and also knowing
that it has been 2 and a half years since the last service (which cost
about 300 pounds including a new heat exchanger), I called British Gas
to get onto their service plan. Signed up for 15 quid a month. Knowing
my boiler as I do, this will pay for itself in no time at all. but,
having only just ligned up for it, we will have to wait for January
and the promised service before saying "Really? Gone wrong has it?
Coo, who would have thought it!" Having now repressurised the thing
and turned it up a bit, it is limping along again and we are warm, for
    the moment.

We also signed up for the plumbing and drainage plan at 4 pounds per
month - again, this is good for this house, which is always cursed by
plumbing probs. We have 3 things lined up already. We refused the
electrics cover though, no problems with that usually.

Three years ago when we relied on coal (smokeless) for heating I was only
shifting £40-50 pm. Although we did use electric for cooking.

  10. Just checked the last bill 26.5ppl so it's up from what I thought. The
£250 was on the cold months, obviously during the summer it's much
less, still the overall annual bill will be ~£1600[1] which is about
double the oil bill at our last place.
Oh yeah, I've seen the price of oil double in a short period before.

[1] Not including the £108 rental for the tank :-(
