Wanted - bikes with removable baffles

Discussion in 'Australian Motorcycles' started by Zebee Johnstone, Jul 19, 2007.

  1. The MCC of NSW needs information on STOCK motorcycle exhausts with
removable baffle(s), end plates, plugs or any type of object that may
be readily removed with the types of tools supplied with a bike.

[They don't have to be new, anyone got pics of a registered RD250?]

Why do we need this info? If we can show that there are m/c's on the
road with stock standard pipes that are fitted with noise suppression
devices that are not substantially fitted then the EPA will drop the
proposed law that will make it illegal to have such devices.

We need images(.JPG), models, year of manufacture etc

THIS IS IMPORTANT it will greatly assist our fight against the
    proposed new DECC (EPA) laws.

ANd if you heard a stock triumph America or Speedmaster the baffle
converter would come out as well. Worse than a Virago!

Thats a rather broad generalisation , I followed a group of Harleys
today with some of the quitest running gear I have ever not heard .
( the gear change clinks were easily heard)

Isn't the whole idea of a Harley the noise .. or do they buy them so
they can avoid giving other riders the nod ?

It's that look they get when you tell them you ride another brand.

We had a gang in Perth a few years ago who had about 60 members who rode
very quiet Harleys. The Blue gang. They've since traded though.

  15. RZ250 and RZ350s only had one screw to retain the baffles.

Part of the weekly maintenance was to check the screws were still there
and tight. (learnt the hard way, after a screw fell out, and the baffle
shot out of the exhaust at high revs.)

Sorry, no pics. Both bikes long gone.

The RZ500 looks like the top baffles could be removed quite quickly with
just an allen key. I will check on the weekend and get pics if
    relevant.

The bottom silencer can be quickly removed by undoing 4 bolts. (I'll
    get pics on the weekend)

Do you mean OTHER people a mekkin them Modorcicles?
    GOLLY!

I just like bikes (apart from my Scooter, which I hate with
a $3000 vengence ;-). Yes, I do like the Sportster,
loved it to death in fact. Nicest ride I ever owned.

I have owned some Jap stuff. I liked the old Yammie
500 thumper. Really liked the triple Kwack when they
came out (scary but). And my last "real" bike was a
Z1. I bought it of a bloke in the Army pretty cheap,
and had a mech star in Brisbane, Darcy, to kit the
thing out to 1132cc. Chucked it into a hardtail frame,
great for shortarses, Sportster tank, and BINGO!
Very sweet ride. Big on power, short on brakes.
A cop magnet unfortunatly. Still, they were not
really to blame as I had a habit of having a "few"
beers at the LWC, ditching the helmet, and riding
with my cattle hat stuck firmly on my sconce.

Probably get done for terrorism these days! ;-)

I never did get that beast quite finished.
    Fun but, eh? :)

  20. Dunno 'bout that; seems there's an immense disparity 'tween the cruiser,
    sports and trail fraternities.

Cruiser riders (be they Harley or otherwise) always nod/wave to me, yet
    sports & trail riders don't.

In turn I acknowledge all cruiser & sports riders, but not trail riders (nor
posties, and definitely not scooter riders).
