It looks great in that video. I expect it takes a lot of skill however.

I thought the same. The only use case has got to be the military
because a squaddie with a bergen and a rifle can't ride a pushbike or
    mx bike.

I think you may be sort of wrong here. You can certainly carry a modern
carbine/bullpup weapon while riding a bike, modern slings/racks allow
positioning of the weapon in many ways.

While no-one would try to MTB with a Bergen through choice, there are
    other possibilities;

While MX as a understood by say, the Norway Brigade, is somewhat
different to that practiced by the military, particularly some of the
more exotic parts. If it's got an engine and can be employed, someone
will attempt to use it, no matter how they personally may be equipped.

There'll be one kicking around with a Hayabusa engine by the end of the
    year.

I quite fancy lying down in the stretcher carrier operating it by
remote control though. Definitely the only way to ascend Snowdon.

Think surfing. With a road surface that can tilt in any direction, an
oblique stance is more stable than a parallel stance.

Furious threadjacking, but would you have any tips for summer bolt holes
that might have half decent board riding?

I'm decent at carving and short turns, and doing a couple of basic grabs
on straight airs, but I'm lacking mountain experience being a bit new to
boarding, and I'm damned if I can wait till next season to get on some
    reds and blacks.

Some co-workers seemed to enjoy a summer boarding trip to Les Deux Alpes to
snowboard on the glacier. Take the bike as there are some wonderful roads in
    the area too.

We had lots of black MO 05 Army bikes for riding around the site
at PSI. I managed to swing an ex-PTT delivery bike with large tyres, a
front carrier and a rear tray -- pretty much a moped without engine. In
    yellow, of course.

L2A seems like the main candidate, and I'm intrigued by wessie's
suggesting of biking it there, I'd have to post my board though.
I've done all my learning on snow though, mostly at Hemel Hempstead,
I've worn out the hill riding skills on that short slope now, and only
have the freestyle dicking about to play with now. All I can REALLY see
    that way is injury.

Hintertux in Austria is another summer ski resort I've visited. I went up
in a cable car above the permanent snow line for the views as I don't ski.
Visibility was a few m due to cloud at the time sadly. Skiers in the cable
cars were right fucked off! I wasn't best happy as the cost of the cable
car trip was quite a bit.

There's a few places with summer glacier skiing, but none of them
offer anything really steep or challenging. Hintertux, Tignes, L2A,
Zermatt and Saas Fee are the only ones I know of (although there may
be others). In all of them you'll be faced with a long trek up the
mountain, being too hot in your ski gear at the bottom but still
needing it all on top, riding on boiler plate and sheet ice first
thing in the morning (like 8-ish, when they open) and sugary slushy
    stuff by around 11am.

Mainly summer skiing is used for race training, where the early
morning ice is ideal, and often this means that large areas of the
relatively small amount of available terrain are roped off for the
racers, leaving very little for ordinary punters.

I've done it a few times, but really wouldn't recommend you going over
specifically for it - the amount and quality of riding you'll get
would almost certainly be disappointing and would quite likey give you
entirely a wrong idea about what proper snow skiing/boarding is all
    about.

Wait until November, then come and visit us in Engelberg. Glacier
season there starts early October and we've been skiing good powder by
November for the last three years...
