Went to a conference at the new Mercedes place at Brookloands today and they
gave us all tickets to the Brooklands museum for a visit later. Saw this and
had a superb in-depth personal talk through by one of the most excellent
    volunteers/anoraks/enthusiasts, Mr Oscar Mitchell.

    *Want*
Just tell me *how* the hell they managed to do 500 miles of laps of
Brooklands at >140mph stopping only for tyre changes/fuel in that monster in
    the '30s?
    Big brass bollocks, that's how.

There is a pub not far away called 'The Sunbeam'. It has (or at least
used to have) a big murals inside of the Campbell's Sunbeam amongst
    others.

Murals are one thing, but laying hands on the crankshaft with *3* conrods
per big end is quite something else.

Must thrash round like a demented Isle of Man logo.

Have you ever seen the 'Caesar Special' in action?

Apparently pretty smooth in operation. 4v per cyl, 3x banks of 4cyls,
Nope. But I have seen "Fist of Fury" :>)

Nor me, but Prescott Hill Climb is the place to see cars of the ilk to
which you refer like Chris Williams [1] in a 24 litre Napier Bentley.

[1] Formerly intrepid pilot of the 'Auntie Alice' vintage sidecar
racing Panther outfit so used to a bit of 'sideways action' .

I assume your 'little boxes' remark applies only to the TI - what year
    was your IIA?

  18. Ah, you mean one of the real Sunbeams. Nope, sorry, not one of those.

  19. Ah. Mindyu, even at a shite bhp/litre figure, it was probably producing
    great rollocking gobs of torque.

Sometimes though, "there ain't no substitute for cubes" can be taken a
    little tooooooo far, doncha think?
