he's already debating whether he's well enough to service his bike so
    he cant be too bad.
    heh.

I expect the amounts of posts on this group to increase cos he'll be
    home alone, bored shitless.

dja reckon he'll make my tea each night?

Of course he will. He'll probably redecorate, spring clean, do a few
running repairs on your wardrobe and have some beautifully arranged
flowers for you when you get home.

    Probably.

I won the 600 and litre class Manx GPs and the 600 class TT.

It's a pisspoor substitute for the real thing.

  7. That's because a disc gigabyte isn't actually the same as a normal
gigabyte - one is 1000MB and the other is 1024MB.
Beware of spanning - losing one of the two disks will destroy the whole
    volume.

SATA RAID1 is the way to go - done at the hardware level rather than
via the shonky XP disc manager level.

  8. I think you can - but since most modern PCs have SATA (that does RAID1
in hardware) I'd always prefer to do that.

    Aww thanks.
I had a look at the glove when I came got back from casualty and it
was shredded, shredded so badly that I should consider myself lucky to
still have most of my hand. I've always been lucky so nothing new
    there then.

I was using a Bridgeport mill and had lifted the quill up to clear
swarf when the brain fart happened and I used a brush to knock the
swarf off the drill that was still revolving at about 1200rpm. Swarf
grabs brush, hand smacks into swarf and drill, drill grabs glove and
Andy panics. I was frantically trying to hit the emergency stop with
my right knee, hit the main stop switch with my left hand and fight
with the machine with my right hand. In the end superior fire power
won and I ripped the drill out of the taper sleeve before the machine
    stopped.

There's quite a bit of skin ripped off my middle finger, a cut that
the nurse wanted to stitch but couldn't find enough bits to put the
needle through on the same finger, a nicely machined out scallop on my
thumb and what is suspected to be a break on the ring finger but only
x-rays will confirm. The inability to move the finger and the bruising
right through the finger from front to back hint towards an extended
    period of pain.

I doubt if I'll learn from it.

Mine's in a lot more pieces than pathetic attempt to get a few days
    off work.

I was wearing those nice stretchy mechanics type gloves that you can
wear and still work with small screws, allen keys etc. The above claim
assumes full use of digits of course.

If the drill was doing 1200 RPM, thinking time would have been at
    something of a premium.

    And he's a fuckwit, obviously.

Reading up on using a lathe recently (I assume that it would be
similar for milling machines), the destructions say "don't wear
    gloves".

So were you being a silly bugger or are these destructions wrong?

It was only a small paint brush and as soon as it was tugged the
flying swarf decided my glove was its best friend.

Or don't wear gloves when working with rotating machinery. I'm sure I
was told that on my first day as an apprentice.

Airlines are dangerous things when it comes to swarf removal btw.

I can't get a glove on my hand due to the mess of bandage and the
rather sore finger that appears broken.
    Nothing wrong with that.

It's only holding recorded TV so I'm not greatly worried about the risk
of this. Plus, I've not used a Maxtor disk so it shouldn't be a problem
    for a while...
And this (probably?) requires a RAID controller on the motherboard or
    separately?
