Waiting for spring

It isn't always the little things ...

I'm sure you recall the agony of the corroded disc retaining screws of
a short time ago, and the successful purchase of a set of impact
drivable Torx bits. Well, this morning I finally had the opportunity
to use them. Aiming to complete the job on the otehr side of Elly's
Clio as the weather looked favourable, it went up in the air, the
wheel came off and the dreaded granny screws yielded immediately -
realised they were overmatched, I guess.

The whole job went awfully well, really - right up to the moment of
releasing the spring from the strut. The Fickle Ginger Finger of Fate
twitched, trembled, and pointed its bastard self at the end of the
coil spring. Snapped. Fucker. Saturday afternoon. Unclefucker.

Spreading white glove powder over my phone, I made the call to The
Emporium. "No probs mate, be with us in an hour. Forty quid, to
you". Well, good news and bad, I suppose.

So now I've done all the prep work I can, and I'm sitting here looking
for entertainment and whiling away forty minutes of my life, waiting
    for the spring. Ho hum.

I've had the pleasure of fitting new sprockets to the 9R today and
then the extra pleasure of taking the bloody thing for a test ride to
see if all was well. There's no fun to be had from getting cold riding
bikes at this time of the year.

It's been that warm here up until a couple of days ago. Still saw
loads of bikes out today, although it was probably only 14 or so max.
    Naah, you've just pissed yourself.

  4. 19 celcius today - deal for motorcycling pleasure, but I woke up pissed
and then went to the pub. Now it's raining...

There's never much fun in getting cold, imo. However, as it was a
windless, balmy 17 degrees in suburban Fliddick today, I don't see
your problem ... unless you were in your habitual riding attire of
    black thong and flipflops.

  6. Oh you bastards. I don't think we've seen 10 degrees today :(

That said - high 20's for a fortnight was nice.

I was wearing my normal attire of jeans, t-shirt and fleece jacket
with trainers to keep my toes warm. It certainly didn't appear to be
17 degrees here, more like 10.

I took the bike out again at about 4pm and nearly cried when I
realised I'd have to find a clear visor and pack the tinted one away
    for the winter.

What is this of which you speak?

Transforming my riding pleasure it is. I always harped about all year
riding. Of course it was on K-RT's and the like, sometimes with heated
grips. Now an almost naked Bandit is much the same after 30 seconds of
    fiddling with the connector

Who? Uncle Tone, Proprietor of The Emporium? He should be, I'll
agree. Awkward, moaning old codger he seems to be most of the time,
he (and his manager) are fucking unsurpassed (IM not inconsiderable E)
at hoiking parts out of thin air at the drop of a hat, at very
    reasonable cost.

I've got plenty of kit I can put on to stave off the cold but I don't
get any fun out of riding like that.

Well I saw that. The RD battery appeared to be teleported from Brum in a
    Trekeee fashion

  16. Took the 400 Four out of the back of the garage, fired it up, and ran it
at a fast idle for 20 minutes or so, to get it good and hot, before
draining the carbs and putting it into hibernation under a dust sheet.

I hate riding in anything heavy or bulky, the gerbing liner goes
unoticed and the gloves feel like regular 3 season types.

At least 10 in Great Ropeshire I reckon. Roads pretty well dry but a bit
damp in paces. CIHAGM on Street Scrambler mission accomplished and
    provided food for thought.

I hate riding fast in anything expensive that might lose its
waterproofing if I end up on the tarmac.

Today I compromised and wore my rather cool 'n' groovy winter jacket
and my summer leather jeans, when I took the Tuono for a blat.
