Like a part of the tensioner falling into the engine and is jamming
    it....

OK, OK.... summarising, for both you and JL.

-Rear wheel, in gear: bloody hard to turn, even with the plugs out (so
    no compression to impede proceedings).
-Rear wheel, in neutral: as easy as you'd expect it.

-Crank, in gear: turns over smoothly with the normal, moderate amount of
resistance, both with plugs in and out.
-Crank, in neutral: as above, with no perceptible drop in resistance
(this is what I mean by saying that you have to look at the rear wheel
to see if it's turning to figure out whether you're in gear or not; you
can't tell just by how hard you're tugging on the ratchet)

    How you figure that one?

  8. 'cos when it is engaged, it is giving you problems.

H (probably explained the higher than average fuel consumption, but, from
here, I could say it could be anything).

Which gear? If 1st, then it will be hard to turn over, given the
mechanical (dis)advantage that low gearing offers.

Box in top gear? Will be a lot harder in first.

The clutch is not engaged in neutral? Hmm, next you'll be saying all the
cogs in the box remain stationary in neutral.

It sounds like there's something wrong with it.

  15. Of course they will. Just don't be moving (be stationary as you like to
    call it).

I tried building a model gearbox out of paper, but when I put
it in gear it remained stationery.

Hammo, he is describing what happens when he turns the engine.

Which half? In my gearbox all the gears turn in all gears, including
neutral. In neutral however, some of the shafts don't turn.
