vt700 vs vt1100 power comparison

    Help...I need some info from the experienced bikers in this group. I have an 85
    VT700 Shadow. I am pretty happy with it but I have my eye on an 86 VT1100
    Shadow. Both bikes are low mileage. My question is this...aside from the obvious
    difference of 400CC, how much more powerful is the 1100 over the 700. If the
    increase in power is not significant I'll just keep what I have. Any thoughts on
    this?

  2. I would just guess that the VT700 has about 40~45 rear wheel horsepower
    and that the VT-1100 has about 65 rear wheel horsepower...

    You could get exact horsepower *numbers* by googling for those model
    numbers and "specifications". But comparision of absolute numbers is
    actually fairly meaningless. In real world practical terms, you'd find
    that you shifted gears less often on the VT1100 because it would pull
    hills and pass trucks on the highway without a downshift.

  3. If you want power, stop looking at narrow-angle V-twins. Indeed, if you're
    shopping early-80s bikes, get a V65 Magna. You'll never look back.

    What year is your 1100? Is the ride more comfortable on the 1100 vs the 750?

    How is the comfort level for a rider on the V65? I had two V45's back in the
    late 80's and the seating felt a little too tight for two people. Is the V65
    stretched out more than the V45 or the VT700?

    The V65 Magna isn't a great two-up touring machine - the rear saddle
    is fairly minimal, and the rear "cockpit" pretty short, but the engine
    is smooth. The first thing you'll (maybe) want to do is to replace
    those goofy bars it came from the factory with, if they haven't been
    swapped out already. My wrists would hurt after 30 minutes riding it.

  8. The Sabres are roomier than the Magnas. I don't do any two-up, so I can't
    really say more than that.
