VOSA! what's that then

  1. Re: Britains New Police Force - VOSA

It appears that there is a new breed of non-police at large on the streets.

I saw a posting on uk.legal and it seems that these new hobby bobbies now
have the power to stop you and inspect your vehicle.

Their vehicles are very distinctive, they have flashing amber lights on the
top, just like a breakdown truck.

    http://www.vosa.gov.uk/vosa/carlgvowners/vosaroadsidechecks/powerstostopfaq.htm
    for more information.

I'm beginning to despise my own country the way it's going...

  2. From the VOSA web-site

What training have VOSA officers had? They have been trained by North Wales
Police in driving techniques and also stopping vehicles both on foot and
    using a marked vehicle.

    Aaaaagggggh - Brunstrom strikes again!

    Commercial vehicles, primarily:
"Will VOSA's Powers to Stop involve stopping private motorists?
VOSA’s traditional focus remains on Heavy Goods Vehicles and Passenger
Vehicles but also include Light Goods Vehicles and a number of private
cars. However, VOSA agreed with the Association of Chief Police
Officers (ACPO) before the Powers to Stop pilot got underway that we
would not, for the time being at least, stop private cars on a
"mobile" or one-to-one basis but would only do so at organised checks.
This is still the case although in exceptional circumstances we will
use these methods to stop private motorists."

Don't panic, eh? WTF are you, a tabloid "journalist"?

Funnily enough, they were doing one of their usual wastes of everyone elses
    time again near here yesterday.

The focus most definitely being on private cars, which they were pulling off
a roundabout into the local coach park where other members of their
monkeydom were then going all over said vehicles, and issuing rectification
tickets if anything was that amiss.

If they find anything wrong with your vehicle they consider dangerous or you
have no tax, or I believe if they discover you're running on red diesel, you
end up on foot for the rest of your journey.

They used to get plod to pull you in, but now have their very own flashy
    lights and peaked caps!

Be warned... if you drive anything considered remotely old and you pass one
of said checkpoints, you will be pulled in, no matter how respectable it
    looks.

"If you have nothing to hide, you've nothing to fear.", eh.

  8. Which is not, in itself, an offence. Neither is using it as road fuel -
    provided you pay the duty.

  9. Yet it's so simple now to pay up and keep HMC&E happy. A mere 20p/L or
    so and all is legal.
The versatility of thieves. 5 years ago who'd have bothered nicking veg
    oil.

    Certainly not.

Anyway I run mine on first-pressing extra-virgin olive oil blended with
walnut oil. £3.88 a litre, but it tastes lovely.

I would have posted my dismay at the thought that some pikey scum were
avoiding paying tax earlier, but I've bought a laptop and it's hard word
adjusting to using the new Monkey Machine Interface :)

Did you know that Scouseland has two of the main veg oil processors in
    the country?

And, also, one of the main hauliers used by both companies had a driver
sacked because, after delivering veg oil to a particular customer, what
was left in the bottom of the tank he would drain off and flog to their
    local chippy.
