    ....several of 'em.

Snowy's Z appeared electrically lifeless - no lights, no sparks etc. I
stuck a multimeter on it and got 4.2 volts in the battery. Hmm. So I
topped up the electrolite to the correct levels and stuck it on the charger
on trickle, 6v, for about a day and a half. The meter said 6.5v.
Excellent. I slung it back into the bike and turned the key...

Zilch. Absolutely not interested. ****. The fucking electrics are fucking
    fucked. ****.

So I reckoned I'd better get an HBoL. No, mate, not listed. *How* old?

Ebay had one the week before, check Ebay: nothing.

Amazon. Nope, not even second-hand, but they'll keep an eye out in case one
    comes up.

    ****.

And then, like sunbeams through dark clouds of despair, comes an email from
Champ: Would you like a Z200 HBoL, like wot I have lying around the place?

    Would I 'eck.

So, this evening, I popped round to pick it up. Conversation touched on
    electrics...

"Oh yes", he sez, "proper 12 volt system."

    Ah.

The shed is currently[1] full of the buzz of 12v battery charger in full
    cry. We'll see...

    [1]I'll get my coat.

Heh. I notice that a few pages of the "Ignition" section have a mottled
appearance, as though subjected to some WD-40 overspray...

Thanks muchly for the book. I'll use it well )

  6. What amazes me is how you failed to spot the 12v battery when you
    connected the charger to it.

Wtf did you think it ran on - AAs?

Wonderful stuff. There ought to be a number for people of educationally
    subnormal mechanical aptitude.

That had also crossed my mind.

TBH, if a 12v battery, from a bike that's been standing, was showing 4v
it's more than likely no amount of charging will bring it back from the
    dead.

EDTA and an Optimate may do it. Although it'll probably be cheaper and
easier, in the long term, to pop along to the local bike shop and buy a
    new battery.

What do you mean usually? Name me one that uses any other sort of

It's a Yuasa "Turbo" YB10L-A2. Was I supposed to add the two numbers
    together?

Well, a 6v charge got it to over 6 in a couple of hours. A week later, it's
    still showing over 5.
Well, I reckon it's cheaper and easier, in the short term, to nip out to
the shed and stick it on the charger. Which is why it's sitting on the
bench, sporting a rather fetching pair of DC nipple clamps.

If you haven't got any new news then probably.

    A proper bike yeah.

None of these are fitted to proper bikes.

  15. A lot of continental coaches used NiFe batteries except the ones that go
    to cold places.
