As a newbie (still!), what's the best stuff for rain dispersal & anti
    fogging of visor?
Chap in local bike shop said use "rainex", but the can says not to use on
    plastics.
Halfords (!!!!) man said to use dilute baby shampoo mixture wiped over
    inside & out.

    Recommendations anyone (On topic only).

Rain dispersal? Ride fast enough to allow the wind of your passage to
clear your view of the way forward. About 60mph seems to be
breakpoint to me, when you can flick your head to the side and the
    drops just slide off.

If you haven't got a fog free visor, Foggy masks are popular, catching
and redirecting your exhalations in order to keep them away from the
    inside of your visor.

RainX works on car windscreens, and I believe a lot of people use it
on the outside of visors to good effect, as it allows raindrops to
bead and roll off your visor at lower speeds.

Bob Heath anti-mist works very well - it is a little aerosol that you
squirt on to the inside of your visor and then polish off. It leaves
a coating that will do you for half a week's commuting before it gives
up and you have to reapply.

Want to do it on the cheap?

Mr Sheen or similar (furniture polish) on the outside of your visor.
Water will bead up and run off easily and in Summer the bugs come off
    more easily.

Washing up liquid on the inside of your visor. Applied neat - one
drop is enough. Spread it across your visor with fingers, then polish
it off with a soft cloth or tissue. Works for several days, and
    leaves your helmet lemon fresh.

    Hi Niv

You're still out there having a go then old chap. don't know about the
misting but I am using furniture polish (aerosols to you) on the outside and
    the rain just runs off.

Mind you not that I ride a lot in the rain, still wimping it a bit, I'm
obviously not up to your monsoon standard yet ;-)

    All the best, David

'Best' - pinlock or Fogcity if you don't have astigmastism/don't use your
bike TOO much in the dark, when it's raining.
Other : Foggy mask, but can feel a bit restrictive.

    Outside : Furniture polish/bike polish, or a V-wipe - which is like a little
wiper-bladelike thing you stick on your glove.

I've got a fogcity insert and have just been diagnosed as having
astigmatism. What's the upshot? I've not noticed any problem but
I'm still waiting for my new specs so everything's a bit out of
    whack at the moment...

I have astigmatism and don't have any idea why a fogcity may be bad, I
    have no problems with mine.

Don't you just love the way "reality" cop shows also seem to bang on about
"the police always get their man". Well, the one I watched the other night
did anyway, totally OTT American bloke saying stuff like "at speeds
approaching *one hundred miles per hour*", or "the criminals never get
away". Yes they do. Silly person.

I'm not entirely sure but if you read the packaging it says "Not for person
with astigmatism". Also, duemy eyes adjusted ages ago to just 'switch off'
    one

In my experience, the staration/double vison at night is rather annoying
which is why I prefer the Foggy mask.

    Whoops. That should read :
Due to my lazy eye/squinty thing, my eyes adjusted ages ago to just 'switch
off' if one happened to go a bit strange.

hardly OT though is it? If it had been a progamme on, oh I dunno,
paint manufacture in the late C18th then *that* would be OT
