Actually I think it is a good question and one that (like you) I have
taken for granted. If my tinted visor still allows the bad rays in that
is worse than no tint at all!
They used to sell sunglasses for children like this until the danger was
    realised.
The only stupid question is the one that is never asked.

Many thanks for all the responses. It seems there is a diversity of
    opinion.

Yes most of the head is covered by the helmet and hence no need for cream of
SPF rated visor. The exception is the nose which is significant because the
cartilage underneath is so close to the skin (same with the ears). Most
practitioners do significant excisions on these areas for that reason, to
make sure they get all of it. Of lesser significance is the skin around the
eyes but depending on where the excision occurs could result in damage (or
removal) to a nerve which then necessitates corrective surgery. I also had
the lips lasered (open face helmet) which is a painful but luckily
    preventive procedure.

    Thanks for the advice.

    Cheers

Has the size of my nose got any relationship with the size of my brake
    calipers ?

Now it has been asked, so it's obviously not a stupid question ...

    A) No.

Now it would have been stupid not asking the question and thinking that
there may be some sort of correlation between your brake callipers and your
    nose.
While stupid people can ask clever questions it seems clever people can
    give stupid answers.

    Steve,

If you do find a visor that is claimed to have some sort of UV protection
then that visor must meet AS 1609 EYE PROTECTORS FOR MOTOR CYCLISTS AND
RACING CAR DRIVERS which refers to AS 1607:2003 Sunglasses and fashion
spectacles for the guff on optical and such-the-like specifications.

    Slap on the zinc cream

    A) No.
Now if you did not ask the question and went on with life believing there
was a correlation then that would be stupid.

I don't ride at night very much so its not an issue with me ,when I need
to I change the visor to the clear one that came standard with the helmet.

What about a Balaklava ,like the spray painters use ,thin enough to fit
under the helmet but covers the nose and forehead ,you can get them from
industrial safety suppliers .I've seen the material ones , but I think
you can get paper disposable ones also.
