A bit of an unusual question. I'm just on the wrong wide of 50 and have
returned to riding now that the kids are off the hands.

I did a lot of riding 20 to 30 years ago so am now paying the price with a
lot of skin cancers. Do they make a visor that has a SPF rating so that I
don't have to lather on the sunscreen every time I put a helmet on?

    TIA

I have a model that also has two visors...the outside one is a darken one
and I would assume would do your job

    btw: its a Nolan N102

We-e-e-ll, you can use a dedicated sunscreen.... or you can get some lovely
moisturisers that incorporate a sunscreen as well as giving you a youthful,
dewy complexion <grin>. As a fair-skinned rider myself, as well as a "Hello,
    I'm one of those blue-eyed red-head sunburn-magnet types" I reckon you can
never be TOO careful! I'm currently rethinking my own sun-care regime after
getting a nasty red nose on recent rides, despite using moisturisers with
    built-in sun-screens!!

absolutely no reason at all...wonders will never cease! :)

Also having one, they're a nice helmet but really - considering how much
of your face will get sun with it (or any helmet) on especially on top
of glasses .. is it really a huge issue ?

Iridium coated visor should do the trick .Check your local bike shop .

According to some blurb I've read, my last few helmets have all supposed
to have 100% UV protection visors, even the clear visors, but I still
get sunburnt, so who knows what the actual rating is. I always wear
sunscreen. I bought a Nolan N-102 yesterday.. like it a lot.

  10. To be honest those built-in sunscreens+moisturisers probably aren't worth
the packaging (and definitely not the marketing). Zinc cream is good, but
hard to clean off the inside of a visor. Or get a face mask/balaclava
thingy- similar to what you'd wear in winter to stop the visor fogging up.
They stop those horrid little UV rays actually hitting the skin, which is
    the best form of protection.

Or you could reapply the sunscreen as per the directions on the packet, get
regular professional checkups, and be really fussy about what time of the
    day you ride.

Remember, there is no cure for melanoma right now, and the chemos we use
are, in the strictest sense of the word, palliative only.

The undedicated sunscreens just have noooo commitment.

I think it would work better if you put it on your skin instead Kathy.

SteveQ-Tough luck on the bike but aren't we talking about helmets ? It
IS harsh week isn't it ? Stop bitching already. As for affording one,
well you get the money together, look at it wistfully then pass it to
someone else - that's how this money thing works :) Aside from that if I
come off, my head's in something I trust rather than the cheapest POS
the shop had. Additionally, it was the only one that actually fit my
cheekbones properly out of about 7 that I tried.

Nev - so you like the helmet ? What's your take on the upjaw part ? I
think it's fantastic that you can just pop the bugger up - still get
asked to take it off in the odd petrol station tho. I also wear a pair
of mirrored bolle sunglasses that are not quite the big aviator style
jobs but I've not gotten burnt yet.

  17. Yep. The nose cops a hiding everytime. Even darkened visors don't stop
it. Slap on the sunscreen on the nose, cheeks and around the back of the
neck. Even that won't stop sunburn if you're riding all day - but it
lessens the damage. If it's a big issue, use zinc cream (choose your
favourite colour) for near total blocking.
