news.virginmedia.com. For some obscure reason if I click on any new post in this newsgroup it comes up as having been deleted from the swerver. Older messages are ok. Messages in at least some other groups seem to be ok. -- Malc Rusted and ropy. Dog-eared old copy. Vintage and classic, or just plain Jurassic: all words to describe me.
And now it's ok. probably. Unless it doesn't like messages posted by Beav or me. -- Malc Rusted and ropy. Dog-eared old copy. Vintage and classic, or just plain Jurassic: all words to describe me.
virgin news has been shit for years. I used a free server for the last 12 months I used Virgin as my ISP.
I think you will find Virgin treat the news server as a free service, hence the lack of effort. FWIW, that is why the blueyonder emails have gone to google, it was a free serviece.
Ah, that would be why it's as shit as a big shitty thing, especially if you use the webmail thing. -- Malc Rusted and ropy. Dog-eared old copy. Vintage and classic, or just plain Jurassic: all words to describe me.
No, not gmail. Virgin webmail wot are based on some sort of google thingmurt. It insists on sending you a copy of everything you send despite turning the forward feature off. It makes all the emails look like threads in google gropes and I hate it.
I thought that since Virgin outsourced the email to google, then the email basically is gmail but with Virgin branding on it. Not sure about this "sending you a copy of everything you send". Gmail retains a copy of your sent items, and threads them into the emails you receive to build a collection of conversations. Can't say that it bothers me that much. Mind, I only logged into the Virgin version once to set up the IMAP option, but even then I don't actually use it.
with Gmail, if you send an email from the web interface and then download messages via POP3 that *sent* message arrives in the *inbox* of your email client. If Malc wants to continue using an email client then he needs to set up IMAP which will stick the emails into the correct folders on his PC.
If I use Outlook Express it's fine. But if I'm at work or away from home I have to use Webmail. If I reply to someone using webmail it puts a copy of what I've just sent in the inbox as well as in the sent items folder. It also calls emails "conversations". I seem to be turning into a grumpy old git. -- Malc Rusted and ropy. Dog-eared old copy. Vintage and classic, or just plain Jurassic: all words to describe me.
