I'm sure I saw a thread about this recently, but can't find it.

If you're reading this, it's the 17th of May, 2011 as I type.

I was merely observing that it's been a little slow of late in my own
    roundabout way.
    ..
Actually, posting is OK, it's the reading of headers & posts, and even
logging into the server that takes the time. Half a minute or more,
    sometimes.

are you on cable or ADSL? I migrated from cable to their ADSL service when
I moved. They had to go due to peak time throttling of everything. I'd
already ditched their nntp server as that was hopeless all of the time.
Currently with Be* which is good now BT fixed the line to the exchange.

VM have decided to throttle NG and P2P between 5 & 9pm daily.

They've also outsourced NG provision to Highwinds.

It's really not as clear cut as some would have you believe as well.

For example, the 'Load at nnn.nnn' messages from the ES server are a
dead giveaway that they have significant issues on their own, that
neatly tie into the US being awake and on line.

Is that a BT package or are you unbundled?

4pm to midnight & all weekend here. Usenet & P2P completely blocked,
everything else currently throttled to around 50kbps. That's with Sky.

They throttle all usenet traffic at "Peak" times, not just their own
servers. It's dog slow in the evenings as a result.

Top tip if you use news.individual.net. They provide the service on
    alternative ports:

    http://www.individual.net/config.php

I find using 8119 gets around Virgin's traffic shaping which obviously
    just looks out for 119.

That used to work with Sky too but they caught on. They now block all
the news servers on domain name or IP.

I just put a nice Zen line in. I just won't be bothered by these cunts and
    their pathetic machinations.

I'm going to jump ship in July, just can't decide who to. I know you'll
say Zen, but their 40Gb limit's a bit on the small side if I have to
grab copies of a few client's databases. Be* look a likely contender as
they claim not to have any limits, but I don't trust any of them to
    tell the truth.

Hmm I did consider their Be Pro service. I'm not entirely convinced they
will keep up a transparent service but it was really just the hassle of a
    seperate contract that stopped me.
