Virgin 101 was due to land at Manston in about half an hour. I'm listening
to it now, and he's diverting to Bournemouth. He's got ice on the
windscreen so wants to get down, real soon now. He's at 28000 feet somewhere
    near Farnborough and heading West.

(This, btw, is the round the world and a bit flight!)

Shit, he's just declared an emergency. Hope he gets down safe.

Fine around the whole world and as soon as he gets to England the
    weather takes over.

He's going to have to circle a bit to shift the ice before he can land. I'm
slightly surprised he's got problems now, he was at 51K over Ireland and
    OK.

icing only becomes a problem at lower altitudes, that's why turboprops
often have ice trouble when they don't fly as high as jets

Do aircraft suffer from carb icing too?

Of course they do, but it will be fine after they light a small bonfire on
the wing to warm them up.

Yes. Most light aircraft have a little carb-heat control on the panel.
Pull on that, and a flap is moved to direct the inlet air over the exhaust
    manifold.

    The message <>
    a) they don't have carbs much any more on "proper" aircraft[1]
    b) there are strict rules about maintenance, which includes inlet heating!

[1] Microlights are different - you often see 'em with little twin-carb
    Rotax engines.

"He landed shortly after 1700 GMT after 76 days and 45 minutes in the
    cockpit."

76 days? I think he's in the shower not the pub! (Yes, yes, I know
it's a typo. At least I hope so.)
