Victorian bike registration fees

Just received registration papers for two of my bikes and they have
    different total prices.
Both bikes are registered in the same month, two weeks apart,
The Harley 1340cc. total cost is $365.60
The Triumph 1200cc. total cost $423.90.
Can anyone tell me why there is a difference between the two?
Both bikes are garaged at the same place, owned by the same person, in the
    same suburb.
I am in rural country Victoria.
The Triumph is a smaller capacity, yet costs more.

Tried talking to Vic Roads and even with two receptionists at the same time,
trying to tell me, neither of them knew why there is a price difference.

Anyone out there with any clue ?

    Victorian replies only please,
reason being that it would not be related to interstate registration fees
    Thank you in advance

  2. I'll ignore the "Vic responses only" plead and have a stab. As you live in
Rural Vic the Harley is likely to be considered a farm implement and thus
qualify for a concessional registration fee.

Seriously though how does the compulsory third party insurance work down
    there? Different insurers perhaps.

Good relative point thanks Johno, I will try and check further, but, knowing
that the safety levy charge is for anything over 126 cc., I am not sure that
power to weight ratio would come into effect
and that the registration and insurance fees differ for bikes over a
certain capacity, but with the Harley and the Triumph, they are both over
    that capacity point.

I have been on the Vicroads page and the TAC page but there is hardly
    anything there for motorcycles
their web pages are about as helpful as their counter staff.

I will ignore your first comment,
but, on your second one, the Transport Accident Comission here, as far as I
know, decide that they are your insurer,
the paperwork is all filled out with the charge
it looks like we don't get the option of choosing a seperate insurer.

It lloks like they stuffed up. both should be the same. (over 500cc is
the biggest cost) But did they undercharge for the Hog,or overcharge
for the trump. I'd ring and query the charge for the Trumpy and not
mention the other. just in case.

Details of the registration and insurance fees are here.

One incurs the $56 safety levy, the other doesn't
Recent changes means that the licensed owner pays the levy on ONE
motorcycle only so that the government doesn't double dip.
Believe it or not Vmac achieved something for a change.
Factor in gst etc and you'll see the difference is close to $56

Even if many of the Triumphs are not actually going concerns?

Naah; they probably figure the Harley will break-down or be stolen before
    the year is out.

Sorry to be percieved as unsympathetic but I'd bet that eventually the
problem will be fixed and you'll end up paying $423.90 for the Harley as
    well!

The 'safety' levy is now only charged on one bike. If you own multiple bikes
you're only charged once. The MRA helped bring this about last year.

Hey, don't go bursting a blood vessel on us. It's hardly a matter of national
importance (although to some it may seem so).

In any case I haven't seen any such messages.

Can't comment there. However, I did see his post the next day after I downloaded
    my new batch of messages.

Otherwise I would not have upset the order of things in Smeegle-land had I seen
    his post.

a simple thank you for your explanation would have sufficed rather than
    replying to the nazi sympathiser.
