In all the years and all the trips I have made into this country, this
one has been one disaster after the other.. Shortly after closing at
the customs inspection, the black GMC commenced to lose power and the
smell of hot transmission fluid was horrible.. Dammit.. the Vulcan was
loaded on the new trailer that IceMan, so graciously provided for me..
Whew.. no one would believe the help that came out of the cracks in
the rocks.. We were within twenty miles of a small pueblo called
Salinas, which is about 40 miles east of Monterrey.. As luck would
have it, a fine man came forward and offered his shop for the
necessary repairs.. As it turned out, he completely rebuilt the
transmission.. He noticed the brake pads were badly worn on the front,
see there, it pays to check all that kind of stuff.. All his employees
were wizards with transmission and had no expertise with brakes, but
they replaced the pads for us.. Guess what.. no brakes.. at all..
Ahead of us was some bad mountain roads and we had serious problems..
Transmission working great but I couldnt stop the damn thing.. Touchy
... touchy when you pull a trailer loaded with a Vulcan and
miscellaneous boxes of "stuff".. Ah well.. those guys worked on that
damn thing all day and finally got me "some " brakes.. Take note that
those fine people opened their homes to us.. They fed us.. and did all
that was possible to make us comfortable.. We finally got on the road
the next evening and made our way past Zacatecus.. We found a little
shop that was owned by a man who is a wizard with brakes.. The problem
was real simple and he just got all the air out of the brakelines and
we were on our way to Guadalajara.. Since we have been here.. I have
been laid up with the strongest case of influenza that anyone can
imagine.. I have that Vulcan parked almost in the house and haven{t
felt like riding anywhere.. What a bummer.. Regards to all and I hope
everyone has had a merry Christmas.. We sure had one here.. And we are
looking forward to a Happy New Year.. Maybe next week, I will feel
like something and we are planning a trip up the coast to Mazatlan..
Not exactly a biker run from Texas, but I was sure hauling that
thing.. It amde the trip anyway..

wish you get to feeling better soon, as well. Be safe.

hope things improve fer yaz, be careful when you get up from the flu, it
leaves you wiggly for a while. have a good remaining trip.

remember tequila either cures it, makes you not care, or simply finishes
    the job. <g>

    Bill -

Sorry you got laid up with the flu. I know you love to ride
down there. Maybe you will get a reprieve and be able to get some
miles in. It sounds like you are already having an adventure and
    stories to talk about, though.

Stay safe and we'll see you when you get back!

I must thank you , yet again, my friend.. <Never .. would I have
thought that the good men who graciously came to our rescue would have
been of the republican persuasion... They kept mumbling things like
[Vive Pancho Villa[ along with other patriotic little idioms all
night.. Naturally, I just assumed they were good liberal democrats..
You can see how I would come to that conclusion..

It does my heart good to see my fellow
Seeing that I left a little more than five hundred dollars of my money
with those fine patriots, I now believe that my contribution to the
cause should be recorded, and my name be placed in the annals of their
achievements.. Although my contribution was primarily monetary, we did
discuss invading and recovering Texas for future posterity..
There should be not doubt that the brake experts were not available..
However, I must admit that the transmission wizards made every effort
to give me some semblance of brakes so that I could stop that black
truck, before crashing it over the side of a deep canyon..
Many thanks for the thought, my friend.. Doubtless, IceLady would be
happy to have the Ford completely gone from her driveway for a while..
I have responded to the Whataburgher restaurant by rapid e-mail..
Assuring them, of course, that unless they lift the restraint on
allowing you back in their ol cafe, they can expect to not ever enjoy
my patronage again.. EVER.. That situation should be resolved by the
time you finish reading this posting..
My personal physician, here has assured me that it is definitely
GRIPA.. FUERTA.. She has been giving me injections of something ???
every four hours.. I think I will finally survive to fight again, yet,
another day.. hmmmm .. Long Live Pancho Villa.. or someone like
    that.. LMAO..
Many thanks, my friend .. See you soon

Having been temporarily out of commission for the past few days, the
ban from Whataburgher seems to have only affected my good friend
IceMan.. The restaurant in Guadalajara must not have been notified..
Once alerted that a ban was in place in Texas.. I immediately
dispatched several urgency type communications to the administrators
of Whataburger and advised of the consequences of such action.. Access
to their restaurants being critical in the execution of his duties,
IceMan should not be restricted in any way to their premises.. This
morning, I received a response from a very high profile administration
official.. He assured me that upon my return to the US, Whataburger
would immediately proclaim a Bill Walker, and IceMan day of honorarium
... All restrictions will be, immediately lifted and upon receipt of
payment in full, hamburgers to go will be released through the closest
drive-thru facility.. Full investigation of this intrigueing event
should be initiated and disclosure will be reported by the committee..
IceLady will be reporting as secretary of that committee, will all due
diligence .. Now.. not being sure that the ban was caused by me
calling the waitress FAT, or by IceMan parking that old Ford so close
to the entrance, I can only assume that the Ford had something to do
with it.. Glad to see everyone is up and running, back home, and I can
assure you that I am certainly doing my part by surrounding Mexico
with typical partisan political motorcycle propaganda.. Long Live
Pancho Villa and the Revolution.. It is going well.. Invasion of Texas
    is imminent.. LMAO
