    Lo all,

I am this close (holds fingers very close together) to buying an 01 VFR800.

Apart from finding it very very comfortable and in very good condition
(albeit a little overpriced at $11500) does anyone care to crush my dreams
by informing me of the multitude of problems with that model ?

    Garn.

PS - 28Kkms and minor fairing damage which should be repaired for onefitty.

    Muchos Nachos,

  2. They lack about 50 ps from other bikes classified as sports tourers :

    Blackbird XX
    ZZR 1100
    ZZR 1200
    Triumph Sprint

and they cost exactly the same to ensure as these bigger bore bikes.

if your heart is set on the VFR - enjoy your choice, if your after bang
for bucks, then consider the litre plus class of sport tourer - have
everything instead of compromising on power.

Forgot to add - I am in Wait Awhile - as far as I can tell that adds $1000
    onto all prices straight away.

Love the Triumph, just need to find one that puts out 50 PS more than the
VFR. 15 more likely on the ones I've looked at.

Despite what others may think, it's the market that determines the price.
Have a quick look at www.bikepoint.com.au to gauge the market. I expect my
'99 model with under 10K on it would sell for nearly that.
All very well for www.redbook.com.au to give a value but they haven't got
any for sale at that price.
Apart from the voltage regulator/rectifier which may or may not be an issue,
    there are few known problems.
Sure there were new ones around before Christmas for $15600 on the road, but
    not any more.
    Good luck.

I thought the tyre pressures were out due to the use of a dodgy chinese
    guage?

There was a member of our club, had one of these VFR's. Not a bad bike to
look at, and at track days would have it all over my Sprint RS going up the
straight, but lacked it in the corners. By the time the corners were
finished I was right back up on his date again. I dont know how much of
this was riding ability (did the same with the R1s and the zx9's).

Anyway to cut a long story short he went to his first major service and he
didnt like the price (due to v-tec valves) of it so he traded it in on a
    CB1300. (he hasnt looked back)

    Cheers

  15. I think the main component of the bike that was playing up was the rider :)

I find that the interface between the throttle and the gear
lever is a consistent problem with mine.

(kind like the chair-to-keyboard interface on a lot of computers
    actually!)

    onefitty.

Aside of it not being as good as the 750, just check your mirrors for the
bemused look on an R1 riders face as you carve him up in a corner. VFR's are
the most under rated bikes on the road, good at just about everything. 28K's
means it's hardly been flogged to death and the V4's last for ever (aside of
having the sweeeetest sounding eshaust note on earth). R\R's are a weak
spot, VTEC servicing contrary to popular belief is not espensive - compare a
    service cost to a duke!

  19. Is the '01 that first of the vtec ones? If so, I'd be checking that its
had its 25,000km valve clearance service done - I hear that gets _very_
    expensive...
