    [12R clutch]
Stop that! I've already found a link to a bloke's -12R in Canada who is
pumping out 237bhp with some go-gas...

    Noooo! Muuust reeesiiist!

Yeah, I read that, too. I was thinking more in the 2.5 hundred quid
    region...

    [clutches]
    That's precisely what has gone through my mind each time it's happened;
visions of blued and discoloured clutch plates...
    :-(
Mmm. I'd already askedaboutabit and the A1 model does have clutch
problems. Kwak beefed it up for the A2 in 2001. Genuine clutch is ~£80.
I'd drawn the same conclusion, meself. Ok, so where do I start? Serious
question, loike. I don't wanna pay through the nose for it but equally I
don't want to buy shit, IYSWIM. Some might liken this to having one's cake
    an eating it, I know...

OK, first thing is to find out what "beefed up" means. Mebbe Kawasaki
    put stronger springs in...
Ring a couple of reputable tuning houses, tell'em what spec the bike
is and how many ponies it has, and see what they say.

    Good input, both, thanks.
Hmm, so far I've kept clear of zx12r.org and 200mph.org.uk 'cause they
seem even more cliquey than ukrm ;-)

I've now posted a query to one of 'em -- let's see what comes up.

    [of uprated clutches]
    [bad form, yadda, yadda]

Weeell, today I spoke to Jim at LC's and have booked the 12 in for its 18k
    mile fettling[1].

He, being the top blerk he is (Lawesy having schooled him admirably), is
gonna check out whether the 2001 (uprated) 12R clutch will fit in plus
check out the readily available aftermarket stuff and price that up, too.

Meanwhile, my own digging has unearthed a beefier Muzzy item for a
paltry(!) $299 (not the lock-up version, just beefier) /and/, more
encouragingly still[2], apparantly the ZX6R clutch springs are a common
mod according to the assembled genius of 200mph.org.

    Cool!
    :)

    [2] "Cheaper".
