VF1000 fuel economy is a shocker!

    bloody hell, ive only done 122k's on the thing and ive gone through 2/3 tank
    of fuel at $22 a tank!!!! i think i better drive nicer if i want economy

    betty, running away on
    something like 400kms to the
    18litre tank... do I care about
    grunt? Not yet.......<evil grin>

    you may need the carbs attended to

    high possibility of a needle or two sticking

    mate of mine had similar fuel burn issues on a GSXR750 - this ended up being
    the problem

    and yours is waaaaay older

    i just filled up. it was 13 litres got me 166 k's....... and i have been
    giving it a bit of throttle.... do u think thats about normal?

  6. 7.8l / 100km, that's a little high. Try riding the torque band (early
    shifting) and keeping pace with the cars. If it improves, it's your
    riding style; otherwise, there's something wrong with the machine.

    Well, it's 22 years old, and, in all likelihood, still running on the
    original carb internals... I'd've been surprised if the thing *didn't*
    turn out to be heavy on the juice.

  9. My 84 "R" gets between 250 -300 K B4 it goes onto reserve.
    I know itz a silly question BUT have ewe checked the air cleaner ???

  10. I know, but 400 km before it signals 'reserve'. Mind you, when
    pillioning and towing (in combination) I start looking for fuel around
    the 250 km mark.

    But yes - you are quite correct. I'm a rather sedate rider.

    The best I got out of my GPX250 was a fraction under 450km from a full
    tank - Canberra to Wangaratta in one go. I bought it new, and it
    started off at just under 30km/L, which reduced to around 23km/L 12
    months later with 25,000km on the clock. I think the best I've managed
    from the CBR600 thus far was around 16km/L, but mostly it's 15.5km/L.

    While riding dad's almost-worn-out 1972 CT90 from Tarago to Mildura and
    back, I averaged 40km/litre. I'm expecting my own 2000-mile-old 1967
    model will be slightly better, once I get the last of the sludge out of
    the fuel system and tune it properly. ;-)
