Have Liverpool Uni developed a time machine then? This post has come from
    the future.

I think your problem is somehow linked to the words "Datatool" and "alarm".
I had one in the past. Never again. Water got in and their customer service
is shit. I was without a bike for 2 weeks.

They probably use NTL as their ISP.

The System 3 is a much much better alarm.

However it's fancy battery drain detector isn't that clever.

If you disarm the alarm, it'll reset the voltage meter - which means if you
happen to disarm the alarm a fair bit without riding the bike it'll still go
    flat.

Getting an optimate sorted that out for me.

Never having an alarm fitted on any bike I've ever owned has worked
well for me over the years.

My Datatool Veto Evo alarm triggered for no apparent reason, and
I couldn't get the blessed thing to shut-off; save by disconnecting
    the motorcyle battery.

The bike (Ducati) was recovered to a local dealer, who found no
faulty alarm components - just a few slightly corroded
connections. He suggested that maybe the battery
voltage had dropped low enough to trigger the alarm, but I
might consider upgrading the alarm PCB to the "System 3" revision.

Anyone had similar problems with the Evo, or know
if newer Datatool alarms are less of a drain on batteries?

AOL. The Solalarm that was fitted to my T/ace now graces the bottle skip
at the Black Horse in Hulland Ward.

You don't say which model Ducati you have, but I know
that the most common place on the 916 series to mount
the DataTool gives problems as any water spray/rain
runs down the lead and into the connector which is
covered by a rubber boot? This holds the water in place
and corrodes the connections sending it mad. I'm pretty
sure this is the case as it's been discussed a few times
    over at ducatisportingclub.com

The DataTools do seem to be crap alarms though, from all
the reports of them either failing or not working in the
    first place.

My Ducati is a 748R. I assumed that with the alarm
being installed under the seat, it was in a hot &
dry environment - but I will check to see if water ingress is
    indeed a problem.

Thanks for that tip and to all who offered
opinions about DataTool alarms in general.

Ducati 748R (with weedy 12AH battery) : Laverda 650 (gathering dust, but boasts
    a nice big 18AH battery )
