Cut out alcohol for a month and see how much of it is water retention.

TBH, I'm a very laid back person. I was fine this morning but since hearing
    about my BP
I can't stop worrying. I'm off work at the moment and I can't wait to go
back to get my mind off it.
Seriously, I don't know what else I could do! I do love my job.
Any less money coming in would cause even more stress.

Me too, almost. I had a pint yesterday lunchtime during an off site
    meeting...
Mine is if anything a little better, out like a light 1AM - 6AM but
seem to wake up shattered. I'm sure my trip to India in a week or so
    will fix it.

No big deal you made it as far as today, in all likelihood you will make
it to tomorrow. If you concentrate instead on efforts to do the things
you need to do in order to bring it down you won't have time to worry.

Once you start on the weight loss and diet changes and exercise you will
get healthier generally and this will make you feel good. Proven
scientific connections between the two exist.

    That is bollox.

I was diagnosed with high bp at age 35. My bp was monitored over a
period of 6 months before any intervention was taken. My bp did reduce a
bit over this period; I put it down to being less stressed on later
    check-ups.
At the end of 6 months my GP decided to put me onto beta blockers. After
3 months the dose was increased and I was given a hybrid tablet that
included a low dose of a diuretic. I take a drug called Tenoretic
(generic co-tenidone). Look it up at www.netdoctor.co.uk if you want to
    read about its effects.
You will only significantly reduce your bp by losing stones rather than
pounds. I lost half a stone in a couple of months and it made **** all
difference. Perhaps if I lost another 2 then I may get somewhere.
Excercise will help - to reduce stress and improve fitness.
You will only need to mention it once your doctor decides you have
persistent hypertension. Hopefully, lifestyle changes such as weight
loss, diet, excercise etc will reduce yours to normal levels.
I do not mention it on vehicle insurance as there are no known side
effects of my meds that will affect operating machinery. However, with
my annual travel insurance I declared it. They made a note on the policy
statement but there was no additional premium to pay. In fact, someone
with undiagnosed or untreated hypertension is a much higher insurance
risk due to the higher probability of a stroke.

I've been on the same level of medication for over 5 years. There are
some side effects: 1st six months you get lots of funny tingling
sensations in your fingers, body temperature regulating mechanism
becomes temperamental [1]. Wheeziness [2]. Long term risk of arthritis
    type problems.

However, there are 2 big pluses of taking the medication: I rarely get
migraine type headaches which were becoming increasingly frequent before
a diagnosis; my hayfever has become almost non-existent [3]. Other
benefits are the reduced risk of a stroke in later life and the
medication does not have any interactions with alcohol.

[1] hands & feet get cold & stay cold; menopause like hot flushes when
you enter a warm building from cold outside
[2] your GP might select another type of drug [4]because of your asthma
[3] Dr Reid reports the same
[4] there are 2 other main types, neither suitable for me as you are
    supposed to refrain from booze

High blood pressure makes a hangover much worse IMO. Now my bp is regulated
by drugs [1] I rarely get one.

Ta, can't help feeling a bit panicky.
I know, I did it before. I lost 2 stone and my BP came down. I had the same
    feeling I do now.
But I just can't shake it from my mind.
Its something I worry about now, hence the re-mortgage and sale of Blade.
I know I would worry more if I had less.

    You sound like my twin.

Fancy a challenge? I'll give you a two stone head start.

Starting Monday. First to lose 4 stone?

    Game on?

Either of us loses too much, too quick,(say >5lbs in any one week)[1],
    all bets are off.

The way I see it, you need incentive, so do I. Let's share!
