    Gday all

    I recently brought a 2002 cbr600f4i.. it came with a ventura rack..

Today the blinker on the left side snapped off, the entire bracket that
attaches the blinker to the tube part of the rack.. The inside of the join
seems to have a fair bit of surface rust.

Not sure how to fix it, but its taken the blinker dangling under the wheel
and put a few scuff marks on it.

Has this happened to anyone else?

    cheers
    Nathan

yep, i had the left one snap off as well. there seems to be a problem with
    the welding at the factory.

    2 solutions:

    1. get it welded back on. mine was under warranty, so i had it done for
free, but if you take it down to the bike shop, they'll be able to do it for
    you.

    2. while i was waiting, i made some mounting brackets that worked quite well
because the blinkers didn't stick out as much, so was less likely to be
brushed off. email me if you want some pictures of the brackets.

    cheers,

Just to go against the flow, I can report that I've never had a moment's
    problem with Ventura racks.

On the R1100RT, I carried a 3-man tent, two big Roman 'zero-degree' sleeping
bags, wet-weather gear, and sundry other bits and pieces. It was still fine
after 80,000km of constant use, and is still going fine two years after
    that.

Maybe quality-control has changed, but it's not evident in my new rack for
    the SV.

    I reckon they're good stuff.

Some people look at the materials used to build modern cars and reckon there's
no way they're safer to drive than a real car built out of real steel like a
    Kingswood or a XP Falcon.

Have I mentioned that the 60cc Duc has done 41000 klms and the Ventura on
that has carried a few large loads over the years. Paint's a bit worn, but
    otherwise OK

Actually the apostrophe is correct but I'm sure your bike is more than
    60cc's

Yeah, going along with Coney :)
Over the years I've put some ridiculous loads on various Venturas and took
them over some pretty rough stuff and fairly long stretches of dirt at that.
Just recently one of the racks cracked the rear mounts on both L-brackets on
one of the racks on the Pegaso (during the BananaRama tour, with about 35kg
hanging off it, way above the recommended limits, as usual). The brackets
had been used for about 60.000km. The original "weld" is NOT a weld, but
some sort of brazing and luckily I found an engineering mob in Singleton who
knew what they were doing. Tig won't do the job for long (if it's cracked
along the original "welding point"), nor arc or similar "standard" methods.
The OEM-"welds" contaminate the area that has tp be reworked and should only
be re-done with the use of the appropriate method/ materials (I'm no expert
    on that stuff).

The L-brackets showed signs of fatigue after heavy use over 4 years and I
spent the $130 to get a new set.
All up, I'll stick to the Venturas, they served me well.
    cheers

ive got 2 non standard items on my bike. a ventura rack, and a slash cut
    exhaust

guess which two items are rusting. fortunately the bike was owned by a
friend before me and his father had welded rods inside the rack (where the
rack itself connects to the bike rackmount).

dont buy aftermarket gear. yes we all like the stuff but alot of it is shit.
(a few things are good of course, and they get a good reputation because of
    it)

there are alot of cheap arse manufacturers around

Are you suggesting that the rusting is because of the welding, or in spite
    of the welding?
    How old is the rack?
    "Don't buy aftermarket gear"...................pffft.

    Conehead
I wouldn't buy any from someone who manufactures cheap arses
