I had my right index finger sewn back together at Hemel Hosp after I got
it jammed in the rear window catch of a Mini while I was driving up the
M25. I couldn't release my finger immediately, so I drove for about 15
miles with my finger stuck behind my head caught in the catch. I stopped
when the pain got just that little bit too much to carry on. The back
seat of my car was swamped in my blood and I had to throw it away and
    get a new one.

I thought the young female doctor who attended to me was gorgeous. She
was Chinese from Singapore and we chatted for ages about living there.
As well as being gorgeous she was very professional.

Don't you think the 400 miles of driving involved might have contributed
to your apparent lack of pain relief?

Hmm, that would depend on alcohol intake

Since no oone else has asked. How the hell did you manage to get your
finger stuck in a rear window catch while driving?

    Tony Wright says...
The wind was annoying me so I went to close the window, which requires a
half shift round in the seat and a stretch behind and down the side of
the headrest to reach the catch. You can just about manage it with
leather trimmed 1995 model Honda Prelude seats fitted in a Mini. When
the over-centre catch closes on your finger you're stuck there, because
no way can your remaining fingers get purchase on the catch to open it
again. In fact, with the high backed bucket Prelude seats, it is almost
impossible for anyone larger than I was then to get their other hand
over to undo the catch. I eventually managed it by reclining the seat a
little so my left hand could get as far over to reach.

For the trip from just south of Dartford to Hemel I wrapped my finger in
a sock, stuck a condom over the top then tied the lot back with a cable
tie. That kept the blood off the seats and dashboard.

I still have a funny shaped lump in my finger and a nice, almost
    circular, scar.

I'm not so sure about Cheltenham. recommend rather than highly
    recommend possibly.

The RUH at Bath is not recommended. Next time I plan to hospitalise
myself I'm definitely not doing it around Bath.

BUPA hospital at Reading's pretty good. But that wasn't a bike accident
    so I s'pose it doesn't count.
