VC change: ear plugs legal

Discussion in 'Bay Area Bikers' started by Thomas J. McGuire, Jun 6, 2004.

  1. Hi:

The June 04 issue of "Friction Zone," in the CHP Connection section
describes a recent change to the VC, removing the previous "custom"
    restriction.

"In spite of the new wording of California Vehicle Code 27400(d) enacted
some months back, which specifically allows the use of earplugs as
"personal hearing protectors" to "attenuate injurious noise levels,"
many of us riders are being chided during traffic stops regarding the
    use of said plugs."

The article is quite complete, including some data on MC noise/wind
noise clearly placing the decibel level in the "injurious" category.

The CHP officer writing the piece, sez "be preapred to articulate your
actions to the officer...believe me, he would rather hear it from you
    than from the judge."

Wish I knew who to thank for this tiny, but impt change.

    Cheers,

    Tom

Although I freely admit that this isn't really responsive to your
thread, I have another question: What is this "Friction Zone"
magazine, and where would a fellow like me pick one up?

Granted, that's something you haven't done yet. Unfortunately it's not
original and I'll have to mark you down for that.
