Probably, but how far do you think they will go with it? I know a few
people that would be glad of it.

"The Times quotes officials as saying that, while someone travelling"
at 90mph in a 70mph area would still qualify for three penalty points,
a driver travelling at 35mph in a 30mph zone might only get two."

I think it would be better the other way round IYSWIM.

I would welcome it only because there's a reduced risk of a ban.

Hmm, not sure about that. It depends where you do most of your driving.

What penalties would you give to someone doing 75mph in NSL?

Only police officers should dish out endorsements; it should never be done
automatically. It should be done on the basis of dangerous driving (such as
tailgating), not just some arbitrary speed.

    I think 35 in a 30[1] is worse than 90 in a 70, so
in general, and assuming it was only speeding,
i.e. nothing dangerous about it per se, I think
for 75 in a single carriageway NSL should be 1 point.
    For 90 in a 70: 2 points. >35 in a 30: 3 points.

[1] Actually, would have to *over* 35 given the 10% + 2 guidelines.

It's been suggested here before that only two traffic offences are required.
Driving without due care and consideration.
    Dangerous driving.

Most accident blackspots are due to engineering shortcomings, failure to
remedy should put some local council wallah in pokey. Where speed can
contribute to problems at a particular locale I'd be happy to see rumble
    strips or bumps.

    Camera's do nothing useful.

  10. Northants plod are allready doing something similar. My mate got
nicked by camera for doing 35 in a 30 and he has been offered a £60
four hour spped awareness course instead of 3 points and a fine... He
    recons its well worth it..

I think for NSLs there should be a sliding scale, based on how far over the
    limit you were.

    My proposal would be:

    200mph+ : 60 quid find and 3 points.
    180mph-199mph : 30 quid fine, no points.
150mph-179mph : Official police letter, reading, "Gann steady, like."
100mph-149mph : Animated GIF of a policeman wagging his finger e-mailed to
    you.
    80mph-99mph : No action.
    61mph - 79mph : 30 quid given to you, to put towards a better bike/advanced
    training.
40mph - 60mph : Official police letter pointing out that the road is NSL and
asking what you were playing at.
Less than 40mph : Free subscription to "Caravan and motorhome" magazine.

As the man says, sensible policies for a happier Britain.

How so? I can safely say that all the black spots I've seen (not
many, for sure) have not been so bad that proper driving wouldn't have
    solved the problem(s)
Neither to rumble strips or bumps IME. They installed a load of
pillows nearby. It had no discernable effect on those that were
speeding already. Of course, those of us that weren't speeding
(residential area near schools) and with respect for our (lack) of
ground clearance reduced our speeds. The council promptly declared it
a sucess since average speeds had dropped.......

You answered the question. There can't be many blackspots which could not be
so engineered to cope with the average standard of driving.
We have some bumps here, everybody slows down for them, be a dead car
otherwise. They have sensible gaps for bikes though! Rumble strips leading
up to concealed junctions etc. are quite effective too IME.

Having being passed earlier today by a Porsche driver (male) when doing 30
in a 30 who seemed to take offence at me getting in his way
    I would agree.

Unfortunately the same driver (who I caught up within seconds once on the
NSL) almost caused a three car pile up by trying to overtake on a blind bend
going up on the crest of a hill - rather luckily the other cars gave him
some room. Stupid twat then didn't overtake on a bit of road where he could
have - I however did - overtaking him [1]and the other car and disappearing
    up the road.

I saw three instances of dangerous, potentially deadly, driving from one car
in less then 3 miles - I sped through most of the NSL but did not
inconvenience or indanger any other road user - I'm the criminal though.

[1] I admit, I gave him the wanker sign... not big, not clever :-/
