How hard is it to do a valve adjustment on a 2002 Honda Shadow (Spirit)??? TIA Davehd Someone correct me if I'm incorrect, but isn't the "Spirit" an 1100? and isn't the 1100 hydraulic, meaning no adjustment needed. (I believe the 750's have to be adjusted). Alex Side note to "Dave HD" ( I think the other comments about your "crap" was referring to you posting in HTML, most newsgroups prefer post in plain text. For example, if your using Outlook express you can select the Format menu after you have started a post message and choose plain text or you can go into your options so it will use plain text all the time).
First, sorry about the HTML. I had to reinstall some thing on this machine and, in setting up Outlook, thought I had all the NG settings to "Plain Text" and in fact had rechecked them. I obviously missed one of the check boxes. Nothing to loose sleep about. I don't walk on water, so, there are bound to be mistakes. Nuff said. Second, Alex - you are right. It is an 1100. But I don't know if they are hydraulic or not (need to check on that!! ;-)) Someone (I can't recall just who) told me that they were solids and needed adjusting. Hmmm. I will check the owner's manual (buried under a side cover on the bike). Honda's not to forthright about some things. BTW, why don't they publish the rated horsepower on their engines??? Thanks for the advice!! Dave
The 1100cc Spirit runs somewhere in the mid-50's as far as HP is concerned, but by the time the power makes two 90 degree corners and turns the tire you're probably closer to 50. The bike does have decent torque and is lighter than many cruisers, so it goes down the road just fine. I had a '97 spec and I'm pretty sure the valves are hydraulic. You can visit the Shadow riders forum in Delphi Forums.com to find a plethora of information. There are forums there for other makes as well. Honda did market a 750cc Spirit a few years back, they may still for that matter. These are chain drive and produce in the lower 40's for HP. Cruisers aren't known for their HP, even a 800lb Harley only has something like 72HP from the factory. You won't find that on their website anywhere either.
It's no harder than any other bike engine with adjusters on the rocker arm, probably the hardest thing is to remove the head cover that just sneaks out from under the frame (helps to remove the fake plastic cooling fins on the head) 750cc 2002 Honda Shadow Spirit How hard is it to do a valve adjustment on a 2002 Honda Shadow (Spirit)???
