Have you seen the latest version of Duel? It's crap, but that's no surprise,
given that most remakes are crap.

I've not seen much of the test (hospital and being unconscious doesn't help,
although it's somewhat more entertaining), but I bet that even the amount of
morphine I've taken these last few days wouldn't be enough to quell the pain
    of the cricketeers.

They've remade it?! How could it be improved upon? Er, no, I haven't
    seen it.

  7. I consider it as much of an abomination as colourisation. Fech.

Old episode of Columbo last weekend was directed by some Spielberg chappie.

  8. Just so. I've sat down to watch a classic movie on several occasions and
found my memory playing tricks - "I'm sure this used to be black and
    white, ah... fuggit."

Some of the colouring in isn't bad, but I object to the wholesale
colourisation of decent flicks that stand on their own merits, in which
the b&w quality was an artform in itself.

Eg Metropolis? I much prefer the B&W.

I suppose the 'of its time' does it for me, although TBF it is a long
time since I saw it on TV. Pretty much straight line racing in the
streets [1] for'pink slips' stuff agreed. For some reason I particularly
remember the scene where they go shopping for carb parts, don't ask me
why - attention to petrol head jargon attention to detail perhaps.

    Duel was absolutely dreadful.

If you want a quality road movie, it's gotta have Burt in it, with the
    tache.

  13. I concur.
Burt Remould has been in some stinkers, but one or two were watchable
    enough.

Not one of his... a road movie that had a group of mates travelling West
before they joined up (afair), there was a reference to Dom, which
turned out to be a bottle of champers and a tremendous shonky backwoods
    aerial sequence with a clapped-out old ex-hippy sky-diving instructor.

    Anybody know the title?
