Values of Used Motorcycles in the UK?

    Check this out:

    http://london.craigslist.org/mcy/220931955.html

It appears that a brit in Minneapolis MN USA is trying to export a bike
    to the UK.

Is the price difference between the two countries large enough to make
    the used motorcycle business worthwhile?

What about import duties, freight, insurance costs, etc..

I'd be interested in shipping....... I think, I've never done one.
But I sure do have a fine
    selection of used motorcycles available.

  3. Why don't you do some research, dumbo?

    The short answer is "yes".

I hadn't bothered to look at the specific bike until now. A 'black
bomber' is it not. As featured on the dust jacket of my first edition
    ZATAMM.

  5. Erm, it is, actually.

£2600 is a bit steep, but if this one is utterly immaculate, unrestored,
original and with all the paperwork, then just worth it.

  7. Well, yes, of course, and that's right and proper. It's just that the OP
sounded suspiciously like a dealer spamming for business.

I do so much love to post to u.r.m. Such genuine warmth and concern
for a fellow biker dude. Yup. It reminds me of the barroom scenes from
    Star Wars.

What if? Check out motorcycles for sale in London, UK, as opposed to
motorcycles for sale in Minneapolis MN, USA.

Then compare prices. (I've been using a dollar to pound conversion
    rate of 1.89.)

I certainly have access to the entire used bike market in Minneapolis
and that includes the bikes that are NOT listed on Craigslist.

Follow up question: Is there a market for unlicensed off-road or dirt
bikes in the U.K? There are many of them here that do not have titles
or licenses. ( My guess is that the market for them would be a bit
    limited.)

    Thanks in advance,

    Jake

I did some "research" this morning. Local bike shop had a '77 GT750 Kettle
for 3 grand. Rebuilt engine, Allspeeds and orange metalflake paint.
I like metalflake paint - very seventies.

Well it's a very sweety, minty bike (according to the OP), but I'm not
convinced it's an unabused original. The Merc in the background looks good,
but it also looks like a well restored piece and Minniapolis isn't the
driest state in the union and that's where they are.

Still a nice looking bike though.

    It's great isn't it?

Yup. It reminds me of the barroom scenes from
More specifics please. Episode I, II, III, IV, V or VI?
See that's where the "problem" lies. If you're a dealer, you're in the wrong
    place to advertise your wares.
It's not so much limited as cornered by the cheap shit Chinese imports. You
can get a shite new off-roader from China for less than the back wheel for a
    Honda. Well almost.

  12. For garden and field bikes, yes, but they're mainly Chinese cheapies. We
don't have the expanse of open land that you do in the US.
Look, people have been importing bikes from the US for decades.
Generally, they get a container or two, and fill them up with old Jap
classics, since they (and especially their components) fetch good money
here. Bikes from states like Arizona, Texas, etc tend not to rust, you
see, so tinware is in decent shape.

There are a lot of Yamaha XS650 twins here that originated in th eUS,
    for example.

People bring in Harleys and Wings too, for those (specialist) markets.
The rough rule of thumb is that if it costs £5000 hee, it can be had for
$5000 in the US. So then all you have is shopping and some taxes.

I doubt it. HD only have a little over a quarter of the domestic market for
    new sales[1] according to
    http://www.usatoday.com/money/autos/2005-01-19-motorcycle-usat_x.htm

It seems the majority of US motorcyclists are much like US car buyers: they
realise that the domestic product is a crock of shit compared to the
    offerings from overseas.

One more research question, I understand that the above item is a '77
Kawasaki 750 and it's being offered for 3,000 pounds. Am I correct?

If that's the case then the exchange rate would equal 3,000 pounds x
    1.92 or $5,760.

According to the "book price it's worth about $860 here.

    http://www.kbb.com/kbb/OtherVehicle...iceType=Retail&YearId=1977&ManufacturerId=213

$5,760 there or $860 here? Am I missing something or is there a huge
error in my calculations and or assumptions.

    (Let the insults begin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

    Love and kisses,

    Shakey Jake
