The price at the moment says £49,785.69. I can understand someone taking
the piss with the bidding because of the guy's feedback but the bidder
seems to have a lot of feedback and most of it good.

And the buyer with the high bid of £49k? I guess he's just stopping other
    people bidding.

    That's most odd.
I'd expect to see a ridiculously high (revenge?) bid from a newly registered
hoax ebayer but this high bid appears to have come from someone with a very
    good rating - i.e. 2296

Check out the seller's feedback - allegedly he sold a bike then relisted it
the next day - buyer most p*ssed off.

Strangely, when I read the seller's feedback I thought of Des. Then I
looked at the bid list for the current auction - the first bidder
    calls hisself "froggy2221".

There's deffo an 'i-bike' connection here.

Indeed, plus the paint job is a US one which would make me slightly
    suspicious.

How does one hijack an account?
And more importantly how can one guard against it?

The new Zonealarm has got a natty little feature.

You put your eBay password in it and if you go to a site that looks like
eBay but isn't, it'll stop you in your tracks and let you know.

    That's the theory anyway.

Gosh, that is innovative. I use my eyes, personally - if the url
doesn't start with https it will be a wrong 'un.

  14. Got one last weekend, as you say non secure and the immediate give
away the website server was in lebanon with the mail sent from a
spanish dialup. I assumed Ebay were rich enough to own their own
    servers and mail system.
