After 8.5 years, and ~52.5K miles, the Valkyrie
is gone. We had our agreements and differences,
but overall, we had a good relationship.

May she find a true and loving home, to give her
the attention and caring that I couldn't/didn't.

I'm sad, but happy for her.

  4. Congrats, Anon., on your new bike!
It was centered in Irving. What does that tell you?
    First one, a 2.5 at 11:25 p.m. last night, then a 3.0 at 12:01 a.m.,
    the morning of Halloween Eve.
There was one further south, back in April of this year... a 3.75.
Y'all may split down the middle. ;)

Yeah, it's quite different, but I seem to like it well.

Some owner's complain about the crouched seat-
ing, buzz/vibration(s), seat comfort, etc. Maybe
just a little early for me, but I either don't see/feel
those things, or I'm just not as sensitive.

Of course, how bad can it be just runnin' up and
    down NWHwy? <g>

Well, I haven't fallen down *yet*, so it must just
be a good old fashioned Texas earthquake.

However to me, those bikes are great tour rides, I imagine...
I dont think they are particularly for ''bar hopping'' riding around
and staying in ones ''zip code''...just an observation.....not a big

What's the seating position like? is it all crotch-rockety, or more of a
    standard?

Well, I personally like the seating position. Having
never actually ridden a type of bike you're describ-
ing, I can only compare based on observation(s).

The FJR appears to have a similar tank to a true
sportbike. It may have a higher capacity, but the
outside dimensions seem about the same. So, the
rider is not laying on the FJR tank, but is always
close enough to require a scratch pad protector
on the rear of the tank. I like gripping the tank
between my knees. The Valk tank, as with most
cruisers, is much more similar to seat height.

The sportbikes commonly have handle bars and
controls mounted down very low(ay least to me).
The sportbike bars are a lot like what we used to
call clip-ons many years ago. Conversely, the FJR
    has the bars/controls/instrumentation mounted to,
and far above the fork crown. The bars are not
actually a handlebar unit, but like a Gold Wing,
are two individual angular pieces secured to the
crown. These "control bars" can be raised or
lowered minimally, but additional tools/parts are
required. They are not factory adjustable.

Unlike many soprtbikes that I've seen, where any
of the instrumentation may be the size of a quarter,
the FJR's instrumentation includes an analog tach,
and speedometer. A supplementary LCD area
exists that provides fuel level, operating tempera-
ture, ambient temperature, time, odometer and
two controllable trip meters, and a couple of MPG
    projections. In this image:
    http://photos.motorcycle-usa.com/07_yamaha_FJR_detail02.jpg
the tach is at 9 oclock, the speedometer at 12 oclock,
and the LCD information area at 3 oclock. There's
also a gear indicator in the LCD box. Maybe some
other stuff also, I can't recall.

In summary, I would suspect that riders 6' and taller
may/will find the bike uncomfortable for the long
haul. Depending on your torso height, you may also
find yourself in the "sportbike slump" riding position.

But my stumpy torso, and relatively short inseam,
seem to enhance the riding position. I can almost
sit upright. Unfortunately, for forward control
enthusiasts, all foot positions are actually either
right under, or behind, the rider.

Another thing, is that ABS is/are standard. That
may have been optional on earlier models, but
it's now standard. I've not "pulsed" a caliper as
yet, but the brakes are superb, compared to
the Valk. Of course, the rolling mass is prob-
    ably a solid 100lbs less.

That's a lot longer answer than I was expecting, for sure. Seems someone
really wants to talk about their new bike :)

I think what I got from your answer was that it wouldn't be entirely
dissimilar to my Concours. But I sure as hell can't grip the tank with
    my knees on that thing.

Well, I like writing. And as such, have a tendency to
run away with it sometimes. Of course, it's tempered
    by (un)pleasant subject matter.

I don't know if your Kawa Concours reference is a
C10 or C14. But, the C14 is a formidable compet-
    itor to the Yami FJR.

Looking at the C14, I can't see a lot of difference.

I was very interested in the C14 initially, but didn't
    want the KiPass system.

The C10 owner's are certainly a fiercely loyal group.

    Old Connie is old.
The Cycle World bike show will be in Dallas in a few weeks. Maybe you
can demo a bunch of bikes and do some write ups for us.
Then I'll know which ones I wanna demo the next week, when it's in Houston.
The one person I've talked to about the KiPass system said he actually
    liked it, after a while.
You should post more, it's nice to read English in here.

A mighty fine machine you have purchased, but are you going to let us know
the exact time you really, really miss the old Valkyrie? Louie is the only
person I have met or even heard of that did not regret getting rid of one.
