Former three time World Motocross Champions Gaston Rahier has passed
away at the age of 58 after a long illness.
As a member of the all powerful Factory Suzuki Team Rahier tasted
successes when at age 28 the Belgian won the 125cc world title in 1975
at his first attempt, he then went on to claim the title in the
    following two years.

After Rahier's motocross career finished he then turned to the desert
where he took Victory in the Paris-Dakar Rally in 1984 and 85.

Along with the DeCoster, Everts, Geboers, Jobe and Smets, Rahier will
long be remembered as part of the Belgian motocross powerhouse
    dynasty.

There's been a lot of champion desert racers died this year, and it's only
    February. Very sad.

  3. Seen him race here in 1976 at Jilliby(sp?), an MX track near Wyong. Went up
there in the middle of a petrol strike not being sure I'd be able to fuel to
get home. Was worth the trip. At the time I thought my Suzuki TC185 was
every bit the equal of his factory Suzuki. Sorry to see another one go.
