Really? I understood 90 degree V twins to have perfect primary and
secondary balance. Certainly sweller's Guzzi felt nice and smooth
    when I rode it.

Might be perfect on paper, but any bike engine would give a skinny
little plastic oil line a hard time and it's not something I'd be all
that keen on risking. Aside from vibration, there's a real risk of
mechanical damage from outside sources - I've seen those plastic pipes
break and it's often with no real warning; suddenly there's a lot of oil
being squirted around. Not a really good idea on a bike.

    As I mentioned, there's an electrical sender and gauge pair available;
by now the senders are probably smaller than they used to be, which
might make it a viable alternative.

Butbutbut - loads of bikes have external oil lines! (all Bandits, for
a starter). And what about oil cooler hoses?

They're considerably larger and much more robust. The 1/8th"-ish gauge
line is quite vulnerable and is only really suitable for under car
bonnets - even then, they get damaged and personally I don't like them,
hence my wittering on about the electrical version. I intend, someday
when I acquire a stock of tuits, to fit one to the Scim instead of the
    pipe type that's there now.

Ah, sorry, I didn't realise you were talking about a specific
type/gauge of oil line (and, in fact, scrolling up the thread, I can't
see any reference to one). Where did you get the "1/8th gauge line"
    ref from?

Well he did mention a 'skinny little plastic pipe', presumably as
    found on said Guzzis.

From the (known to Grimly and those who have knowledge of the
common-or-garden vehicle oil pressure gauge) size of the pipe used to
transfer the oil pressure from the oilway to the gauge. It is almost
a capillary pipe, the outside dia being ~1/8" and the bore
commensurately tiny. The union on the rear of the gauge is small and
has a fitting for a small olive which seals the line, precluding the
    fitting of a 'robust' pipe.

There is no resemblance whatsoever to Bandit-type link pipes or oil
cooler pipes or hoses. A small-diameter braided hose would possibly
fit - and look good too ... now, there's a thought.

Having said that, the nylon pipes used presently are pretty robust and
resistant to vibration-induced failure. The days have fortunately
gone when one had top use brass or copper pipe and wind a spiral into
them at both engine and gauge ends to hopefully absorb some of the
    vibration.

  8. It was somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the
The black or white nylon type are pretty robust, I agree, but they're
prone to being kinked and breaking at the union end if they're not
    caught in time.

I was going to say something like that.

Well, probably just "don't use a two-gauge set 'cos it's more likely
you'll **** the balancing up that way"

How many times have you balanced carbs[1]?

How many times has Ginge balanced carbs?

[1] I'd suspect quite a few given your advanced years.
