I had one too, and while I don't regret buying it, I don't regret
selling it either. They need an injection of something resembling a
    soul.

Balls. Chuck a couple of hot cams in and stick some race pipes on.

I had Scorpion race cans on mine and it was putting out 112bhp at the
rear wheel once Fowlers had set it up on their dyno, but it was still
bland. I've ridden a TL1000S as well, and hated the 'camminess' of that
engine, it wasn't as fruity as a 916 and had to be revved like a four to
make it go. At least the VTR had some midrange, which is what a V-Twin
    is all about.

  5. Honda manages to do this with just about every engine configuration.

I see no point in owning a big V twin unless it's a Ducati or Guzzi. If
you want a Jap bike buy an inline 4, that's what they excel at. One of
the great unsolved mysteries is why people bought SP1 and 2's

I haven't ridden one but I'm betting the latest Blade is rather nice. It
looks utterly gorgeous, especially the all black item, as much a styling
    icon as the 996.

Agree completely. The power delivery, the amount of power and the
weight/weight distribution are perfect for a novice rider on her 2nd
bike. I have to admit that it sounds utterly gorgeous through the Ixion
can though. Given that she already had it banging off the red line
through the gears I suppose a Gixxer Thou is next.

Yeah, those RSV Milles are shit. Not to mention KTMs. And some yank firm
beginning with H but the name escapes me.

Explain to me why one would by an Aprilia when it's just a 996/8
    wannabe?

They're Sudanese Clit Bikes. [1] The Aprilia's marginally more exclusive
than Bologna pig iron. Back in my Box Hill days, the 916 and its ilk
    were common as muck.

They are not more reliable, the 996/8 genre are bulletproof, and WTF
does price have to do with it! (are they much?)

2002 998s on biketrader are around 6-10K (trade)
    2002 Aprilia RSV are 2-6.5 K (trade)

    both depending on spec/mileage etc.

It seems like a null argument. You don't buy big sports V-Twins on the
basis of a little money either way.
