I've been following the recent helmet thread and am thus thinking
seriously about getting an Uvex helmet. However I'm a bit confused as
to what type of buckle the recommended model (Wing RS) has. According
to the thread here it has a set-belt type buckle but according to the
Uvex web site the Wing has a double D-ring.

Can anyone clarify this for me? (The web site is German so I'm not
absolutely certain about my informnation from there)

The WingRS has a seatbelt type buckle.

I believe that the Wing has D rings. The main difference between the
two is that the Wing RS is constructed of Kevlar®, carbon fibre and
fibreglass, whereas the Wing is of polycarbonate.

I expect that it is. The Factory Pilot is a different creature
entirely as well, having different paint and visor options and I
suspect less obvious differences - but afaik that has only ever been
    supplied with D rings.
Hmm. Dunno. I know a bit about the Wing/WingRS but that's about as
far as my knowledge/interest goes, I'm afraid.
    babelfish for you, then ;-)

Can I just jump in to correct you and clarify things.

The Uvex Wing RS *Factory Pilot* is the only model to have the double D-
ring strap fastening. This is basically the same helmet as a normal Wing
RS, but comes in a chrome/gold effect rather than a painted finish. For
that you pay an extra 100 quid. The Double D-rings are used on this
because Uvex wanted it to be eligible for use in FIM International bike
racing events, where a seat belt fastening isn't legal.

The Wing and Wing RS both have seat belt type fastenings, and their
construction is otherwise as Pip explained.

Well that isn't what their web site says, go and take a look at
http://www.uvex-sports.de/ and find your way down to the helmets
section. Nearly all of their helmets have Double D-Ring buckles
    according to them.

What the German market get and what the UK market get are two
    different things.

Just get one. Make sure it is a WingRS, and make sure you get the two
visors (one double-glazed clear, one legal tinted) with it. Then come
back and ask how to adjust the visor pivots to make the clear one seal
    properly ;-)

I was a sales rep for the Uvex importer. I think I, of all people, know
what I'm on about. The UK market don't get double D-rings on their Wing
RSs, maybe the German merket do.

Well I found that Orwell Motorcycles just down the road from where I
work in Ipswich had a couple in stock so I popped in yesterday
evening. Tried a Large and a Medium and found thet the Medium seemed
a better fit. The salesman had mentioned that in addition to the
three on display they had an ex. 'demonstrator' Uvex as well, in
Medium so I asked about that. It was a plain finish one which I
preferred and when I asked the price I almost fell over when he said
    £75!

So now I'm the proud owner of an Uvex helmet, with seat-belt type
buckle and 'double glazed' visor. I'm *very* impressed with the
non-mist qualities of the visor, I can get to work in the morning now
    with a warm nose! :)

I *think* it's quieter than my old Shoei TXR and I think it may be
even better when I've got it all set up correctly.

By the way the salesman at Orwells said they'd be 'open to offers' on
the other Uvex helmets that they have as they're pretty well 'end of
line' now. Marked up price on two out of the three was £299 and the
third had already been marked down to £225. There are two Large and
one Medium, two have seat belt type buckles one has twin D-Rings. All
have both the double-glazed visor and a legal tinted one.

There ain't no 'English' link on the www.uvex.de site that I'm looking
at, nor is there one when I click on the 'Sport' link to get to the
http://www.uvex-sports.de/ site where the motorcycle helmets are.

Aha, it's off the right hand edge *BUT* the page is designed such that
I don't get scrollbars indicating that there is more there over to the
right, how did they manage that!?

However the Engkish site doesn't give as much information about the
helmets as the German site does so doesn't help us much anyway.
