I can see that being the colour of your face when you try to explain to
The Doctor what the 20' container is doing on your driveway :).

This is tidy but has naughtybits on, like a Suzuki brake lever/hydraulic
wossname, and I'm just about to re-cover the dual seat and put
    footboards up front.

Don't scream - I can't bend the left leg enough to use the footrest on
    that side...
Might be a better bet to have them made from good stainless?

  5. Rick Brett of the Classic Kawasaki Club (formerly Triples Club) used to
do go out to the states, sniff around, buy stuff (NOS plus bikes) and
ship it back in containers. Maybe he still does?

Would you happen to have (or know where I can get) an upper
triple clamp (the kind with handlebar support) for a late
model Triumph Thruxton? Especially a 3rd-party kit
for replacing the low-set clip-on bars, since the factory
    Triumph part is expensive.

  7. Not any more. There's not enough NOS stuff left - plus people know that
whatever is left is worth a fortune.

You can't go calling a proper old hack "trustworthy" like that, you
know. You could ruin his career. Impugnment, that is.

You should buy my XS650 and RD400 for breaking then. All jolly good parts.

If you break that XS650 I'll throw your engine & frame in the river.

  14. Actually, I was thinking of breaking the RD and keeping the XS. It was a
    good'un.

I've no idea how much but they are both best broken. When the RD was almost
done, bar the seat and frame paint, I ran it for 100 miles to bed down the
new engine. I realised my memory was faulty. Old RD's, 400/4 and so on are
best admired on a stand. Hence the project faltered. The XS is no different.
It was the same when I rode WUN's Commando, an R90S and an early R100RS. I
had *such* rosy memories but afterwards I was relieved to have moved on 30
years. They are for gimmers to show off to mates and excited children, which
just isn't my bag. I've morphed into a Bike Whore. I like cheapish newish
good bikes which I can "Consume" then dispose of at little pain.

The RD has pretty much everything. Johnny at PGM came up with all I needed.
£350 Grampian engine recon, decent silencers (and spares) and a brand new
seat. Corrosion free rear mudguard. It just needs the frame painting which
is (of course) a Royal PITA, so ideal for breaking but I spent waaay too
    much to give it away.

It also has a pair of pretty much unused DG heads fitted which are worth
about £400 if you are prepared to ship wherever. I think I have OE to
complete a standard engine. It also has adjustable bars which Loz thought
    were valuable. And a Cibie.

It also has the original points as the makers of the leccy conversion
    liquidated.

I'd get my hand bitten off for £1500 for the RD without the DG's, with them
I could be badly mauled. It's here before the new seat arrived.:

The XS needs the carbs stripping (1) and serious cleaning then the new
exhausts fitted. Kernahan in Belfast recon'd the head and fitted a new
timing chain and cam bearings you may recall. You know how much I paid for
it. Those double wall headers make the fitting of the mufflers less than
    simple however.

I reckon the lot is worth £1750 + £1000 min as a trailer load to complete. A
    lot more broken.

    (1) it won't run WAF until they get it

Heh, I knew there was something 'odd' (other than the heads) but
couldn't pin it down .. I thought the mirror stalks were a bit 'sticky
out', IIRC I couldn't see past my elbows when riding one ... ;)
