there isn't any problem with fitting rings which start out as ".50"
    oversize.
    that's not a half inch. it's a half millimeter, actually 0.020" oversize.
i always check and fit the ring gap in the bore/s in which they'll be used.
usually the rings are plain ended and can be filed to a proper end gap
    clearance.

i saw someone said that rings are "ground round"
    thats not so.
also, even the brand "perfect circle" with the spiral seal will tolerate a
    twenty thou smaller bore.
there's no magic to properly assembling an engine.
there are a lot of old wive's tales out there, tho.

And the ring's circularity depends on the relation between the amount
the it is oversized and the bore diameter. For instance, a 0.50mm
oversized ring in a 52mm bore (175cc twin) would be under more stress
    than a 0.50mm oversized ring in a 67 mm bore (360cc twin).

    Indeed.

Not a good idea in any way.

The cost difference is not worth the trouble.

    Something like marriage and divorce....
