    The 528 he's talking about is the original first series 528i. PDQ back
    then...

    That said, one dealer around here has a G-plater 750i but wants 5k for
    it. There's also a J-plater 735i advertised for 1.8k.

    Guzzis use them and have done for years. My '79 T3 is well over 100K
    miles and on the original bores (they can't be rebored anyway).

    apparently, the killer for Nikasil is leaving them standing for years as
    the piston rings rust and it picks up the lining when finally turned
    over; making the cylinder useless.

    There were some cases of flawed coatings from the factory but they go
    Pete Tong [1] within a few thousand miles. Unfortunately that was enough
    to set the myth machine off.
