When I filled up the SV this morning it was $2.10 a gallon. Last week it
    was $1.78.

    Bargain.

    Today it was £3.45 a UK gallon... So, £3.45 x 1.82 = $6.27 /
    1.20095...

Your US Gallon would cost $5.22 here.

Compaired to the UK and Europe, yes. But its still cheaper outside the
SF Bay area and the rest of the US.
It probably won't be long before it costs that much here.

For many years I drove past a filling station in Jersey Turnpike in New
Jersey and noted that the cost of petrol was always around 90 cent a
gallon, then in 2000 it crept up over a dollar in 2001 it was $1.35. The
papers were full of this national disgrace, it was on the main news. I
mean to say, that's about 73 pee.

Right here in my home town, Anoka, Minnesota it is $1.619/US gallon at
my usual station, "Food 'N Gas". http://www.twincitiesgasprices.com/

    That's about:

    89p / US gallon
    106p / UK gallon
    23p / liter

Filling up my Ford Aerostar's 20 gallon tank costs me $32.20 or about
GBP $17.64. Bwa hahahahahaha. Unfortunately it has a powerful thirst
and gets about 11 miles per gallon in town. Oh bugger.

  12. Indeed. You'd get better gas mileage from a Piper Aerostar. Well,
    nearly...

  18. I'm sure they could have a whip-round among the troops for the fuel
    costs.
