US military video to be shown at inquest

  1. Eh? WWs 1 and 2 were fought mostly with drafted troops who were trained
and in for the duration. They largely weren't Reservists.

Fwiw, I don't have a problem with the TA or those recently left who are
put on a Reserve List. I do, however, have reservations about the
standard and quality of National Guard units who are sometimes found to
be wanting when it comes to discipline, steadiness and attitude.

WW1. Kitchener, Your Country Needs You and all that recruiting poster
shit from your ancient history lessons? Volunteers.

WW2. Slightly different. Get called up and you would go where you were
told, volunteer and you could have quite a bit more say in where you
went and slightly higher wages. Quite common then for young men of my
Father's generation to volunteer the week before they expected their
call up papers in a desperate last ditch attempt to pull a safer better
paid posting. So again, lots of volunteers and not so many conscripts.

  3. And conscripts from 1916 onwards. The prospect of that didn't please
many, especially those of a green persuasion.

Of course, prior to that if you didn't volunteer you were made to feel a
coward, so emotional blackmail was immense.
    Plenty of conscripts.

Anyway, the OP was rattling on about the two major conflicts being
fought with reservists, when he was patently talking bollocks if you
take into account all sides, not just the British Army.
