US military video to be shown at inquest

But the US Military want to limit who sees it at the inquest? No press,
    no public - Why?

The video shows the US National Air-Guard crew of an A10 Tankbuster
shoot at a British convoy who were displaying their orange
identification panels, killing one soldier and wounding four.

It's not like it hasn't been shown on the BBC News and on countless
websites today. Are we going to allow the US Military to dictate terms
and conditions to a UK court?

Personally, if I was the coroner I'd download it from the net, show it
in court and tell the yanks to **** off.

  4. I admire that coroner enormously. Totally unwilling to take shit from the
MOD or the US gummint. Good on him.

  5. Fucking Weekend Warriors. I'd be interested to know of the FF and sheer
fuckup ratio of the WWs compared to regular troops. I've an inkling it's
much worse, but that could simply be an erroneous perception.

I think the poor sods doing a tough job in the air had some right to
decide whether it went public or not.

  8. If the USAF had released the results of their own enquiry, *and* not tried
to cover up the whole thing, I might agree.

  9. They tend to be retired and ex-military, rather than a TA type thing. (No
slur meant on the TA, who I admire much.)

You'd expect them to have a clue then, and at least have genned up on
Brit military vehicles and air-viewable markings etc before going on a
    mission.

  12. Exactly. And FFS, these are supposed to be senior bods. The thing that makes
me spit blood on this is the damn cover up, too. I did like the quote from
the senior US military source. I suspect it came as he was handing the tape
    over.

  15. Vietnam:

Vietcong between 1.2 to 2.8 million killed.
American over 58,000 killed, between 15 and 20 percent by friendly fire.

TBF I don't blame the boys in the air. They where given shit info from
    the ground.

  17. That's my take on it too, FWIW. Now, whether the Ground Controller
was being fed duff info is another matter entirely.

  18. The fact the convoy were displaying orange panels should've made them
    hold back for further confirmation.

And the fact they got word that there were friendlies there,
presumably after the incoming fire had been reported by the convoy,
implies that they should have had no trouble contacting the British
forces to double check the location of friendly units.

I bet the word got about fast back at their base and they were about
as well received as a bout of the clap with added pubic lice. That is,
if the other merkins there care about their allies, or it may have
been a case of them going 'awww hell, not again!'

Probably. They seem to dictate more than the fucking EU knobs and they'll be
telling us what colour underpants to wear on Wednesdays before too long. And
    we'll fucking let 'em..

I'm not convinced that part time soldiers should be doing that job without
at least one full time regular keeping an eye on things "on site" so to
    speak.

It's all well and good talking to the FAC, but the FAC isn't always in a
position to see what's happening on the ground and gung-ho weekend warriors
aren't as likely to hold back as a regular. Well I don't think so anyway.
