Update: The $5k Bike/Helmet/Jacket/Gloves Challenge

  1. For anyone who might be interested, here is what I got...

(All gear from Joe's Motorcycles in Fyshwick, ACT)

    KBC TK-8 Helmet - $170
    Rivet Gloves - $60
    Rivet Razor Jacket - $350

    1995 VFR750 w/ 56,000kms - $4,400
1 year ACT rego (inc Green Slip) - $450
1 year Comprehensive insurance - $300 (Western QBE, 65% NCB)

So in total I've spent $5,730 but I'm very happy with what I got. If
you don't include the rego/insurance then I actually came in $20 under
budget. I bought the bike in Sydney though so had to ride it back to
Canberra which also included some tolls. I'm also going to get some
draggin' jeans and boots in the future (getting paid soon). I've
already been on the Cotter Run with my girlfriend on the back and it
    was a nice little ride!

If you're in Canberra and you see a black '95 VFR with bronze wheels
then come and say hi :)

I think you did pretty well, and VFR750's have a well deserved reputation
    for longevity (rectifiers excepted :)

Yeah agreed. Probably a good choice of cycle on several criteria. Hope
you get some good K's out of it.

Heh! I was thinking as I read that "Crikey, I've never seen a bike
    THAT cheap at Joe's!" ;-)

Sounds good, see you in a couple of months when I move back up there.

Cool...they're a great bike...used to own one myself. Mine registered
91HP on the dyno...lots of fun.

Just be gentle when removing the fairings if you do any servicing
yourself, the plastic fasteners are very easy to break when they are old
    and brittle!

Oh, and try not to scald yourself on the pipes when changing the oil
    filter. (good luck!)

For any servicing you can't do yourself, Dahlitz motorcycles in Yass
    Road Queanbeyan do good work.

Oh, before I forget, do you want a Clymer 86-97 VFR750 workshop manual?
I have one I no longer need...I posted a for sale message a while back
    but noone seemed interested.
